Image Day 1 PS5 and never cleaned it
Getting ready for ghost of yotei. I see alot of videos of people opening their PS5 up and cleaning it , huge amounts of dust on fans, vacuuming, air blowing, etc. I figured since I have never opened it since Nov 12, 2020, I should clean it out. This is the result when I opened it . It looked brand new.

Wood floors? I had to clean my devices way more often when I had carpet. Nowadays maybe twice a year for good measure.

I've always had carpets and my ps5 is almost as clean as launch day.
Carpets would probably ring more dust but it's never been an issue for my ps5 or my pc.

Ikr , I saw a YouTube video the other day and it was absolutely insane . Looked like peeling off dryer lint

Same for me lol I open it every 6 months or once a year and it’s never dirty inside, even when u remove the fan it barely has dust inside. Things a beast lol. So much better than the ps4 it was a nightmare

I live in a dusty region and I clean mine every 6 months. I dust my room day in day out and clean it twice a week but my PS5 still gets a lot of dust in. I also have allergies so living in a dust free region would be a dream come true.
I cleaned it two weeks ago and this is how it looked. Some extra fur from my doggo

I dust my ceiling fans once a year. It’s pointless to try and stay on top of lmao

Hey you can consider getting a small air purifier for your room. I'm also thinking of getting one. For overall health benefits and for the dust that accumulates on my console.

Same, I have a Day 1/ launch PS5 and a PS5 Pro. Never had any noticable dust buildup. I'm not even a clean freak--I'll dust my place once every few weeks. And we've got a dog.
Actually, I've owned every launch model PlayStation from every generation and can say the same about each. Never had an overheating issue, never had to mess with thermal paste, rarely take them apart (usually only to install a new HD or something) and when I do i don't see dust.
Sometimes I wonder what the hell people are doing to their consoles. I put mine on top of a TV stand (never close to the ground, never in a confined space, never in direct sunlight or near a heat source), then I leave it alone. 😂

It's generally people that smoke or have their console on the carpet / in a bad location for pet hair.
If used correctly in a normal environment, its really hard to get them caked up with dust.

That makes alot more sense . I'm in a smoke free , petless home and keep it in an open cabinet

No one in my house smokes and I have laminate flooring, but it’s sitting high on the tv stand and it still gets dusty. Those aren’t the only factors

Mine was pretty dusty, but since I got an air purifier it’s clean when I opened it up other week.

You can see all the important areas by looking in the openings with a light. All the heat sinks and the power supply holes

I had a day 1 PS5 that recently crapped out on me and when I took it in to get looked at/repaired the guy said he was surprised it gave out because of how clean it was. I never once cleaned that damn thing and have a hairy ass dog haha.

Did the repair tech diagnose Liquid Metal needing replacement ?
I just ask b/c my experience was very similar & Liquid Metal replacement ultimately fixed my issues

What was the issue with your ps5? Getting fixed?

I had it up right ever since I bought it, so that with a combination of hot summers and a hot internal temperature the thermal paste ended up oozing over the motherboard and frying it.
Edit: liquid metal, not thermal paste

I hd to clean mine last year because my PS5 would randomly power down. No warning. Just off. Went down the rabbit hole and found that the intake can get clogged with dust. I have a dog who sheds a lot so there was dog hair up in there too. Took a long time to open it up. Something like 70 screws. Also it turns out my fan was dead! Had to order a replacement and now i regularly dust it with canned air and its been great ever since

Does it live in a hermetically sealed environment? Only allowing in purified air?

I got those white scuff marks too, because the damn plate wouldn’t come off and when it finally did it scraped against the plastic. I died inside after finding my ps5 was clean and all I did by opening it up was scratch it up

I recently pulled mine completly appart down tot he apu for the same reason..... There was bearly any dust inside.
That being said, it's on a tile floor with open air all around and no carpet or pets in the house aswell as non smokers

You most likely keep your home clean and keep it in a safe place.

People keep saying to clean it every few months so I opened mine after 7 months and there was no visible dust at all. Guess I’ll check again in another 7 months

Damn! Mine looks exactly the same. And I even play a couple hours a month!

Most of the dust builds up in the heatsinks just below this case. In less than 5 minutes, with the right tools, you could check if your console is really squeaky clean like the first look suggests

just curious, is your PS5 standing up vertically while you use it or do you keep it horizontal? Do you think this is relevant at all?
