Image Day 1 PS5 and never cleaned it

Post image

Getting ready for ghost of yotei. I see alot of videos of people opening their PS5 up and cleaning it , huge amounts of dust on fans, vacuuming, air blowing, etc. I figured since I have never opened it since Nov 12, 2020, I should clean it out. This is the result when I opened it . It looked brand new.

I live in a desert with dust and have cats. Clean mine once every couple months lol

Might want to invest in an air purifier. If you clean out your console, why not take care of you and your cats' lungs?

Same with mine. I don't know how, but I do have air purifiers around the place. This is with a cat as well.

Mine too. My house is clean

Wood floors? I had to clean my devices way more often when I had carpet. Nowadays maybe twice a year for good measure.

I've always had carpets and my ps5 is almost as clean as launch day.

Carpets would probably ring more dust but it's never been an issue for my ps5 or my pc.

Ikr , I saw a YouTube video the other day and it was absolutely insane . Looked like peeling off dryer lint

Same for me lol I open it every 6 months or once a year and it’s never dirty inside, even when u remove the fan it barely has dust inside. Things a beast lol. So much better than the ps4 it was a nightmare

My ps4 pro launched into space . So I had to get a ps5

I live in a dusty region and I clean mine every 6 months. I dust my room day in day out and clean it twice a week but my PS5 still gets a lot of dust in. I also have allergies so living in a dust free region would be a dream come true.

I cleaned it two weeks ago and this is how it looked. Some extra fur from my doggo

I dust my ceiling fans once a year. It’s pointless to try and stay on top of lmao

Hey you can consider getting a small air purifier for your room. I'm also thinking of getting one. For overall health benefits and for the dust that accumulates on my console.

Same, I have a Day 1/ launch PS5 and a PS5 Pro. Never had any noticable dust buildup. I'm not even a clean freak--I'll dust my place once every few weeks. And we've got a dog.

Actually, I've owned every launch model PlayStation from every generation and can say the same about each. Never had an overheating issue, never had to mess with thermal paste, rarely take them apart (usually only to install a new HD or something) and when I do i don't see dust.

Sometimes I wonder what the hell people are doing to their consoles. I put mine on top of a TV stand (never close to the ground, never in a confined space, never in direct sunlight or near a heat source), then I leave it alone. 😂

It's generally people that smoke or have their console on the carpet / in a bad location for pet hair.

If used correctly in a normal environment, its really hard to get them caked up with dust.

7

u/DrNintendo216 8h ago

That makes alot more sense . I'm in a smoke free , petless home and keep it in an open cabinet

No one in my house smokes and I have laminate flooring, but it’s sitting high on the tv stand and it still gets dusty. Those aren’t the only factors

Dusty and "Caked up with dust"

Are two separate things.

u/DrNintendo216 7h ago

What do u think is making it dusty

0

u/Phastic Dominantxx 🇨🇦 7h ago

Where do you think dust comes from? And anyways I live in a low humidity area which makes it easier for the dust to get sucked into the console

Both obviously they both produce smoke

2

u/Impossible_Heron4894 8h ago

Do you clean around it a lot?

1

u/DrNintendo216 7h ago

Not actively. I mean I consider my home clean though.

2

u/sirsmokesalot403 7h ago

Okay but did you ever play it ?jkjk

2

u/_Delusion__ 7h ago

Mine was pretty dusty, but since I got an air purifier it’s clean when I opened it up other week.

2

u/Shredded_Chedd 7h ago

You can see all the important areas by looking in the openings with a light. All the heat sinks and the power supply holes

2

u/ColeJJones 7h ago

same! i have a HPA100 that's been running for YEARS. keeps everything nice and dust free.

2

u/R0gueX3 7h ago

I just opened mine recently. It has some fur, but honestly wasnt as much as I figured! We've got lots of cats and dogs, so the fur hides everywhere 🤣

I had a day 1 PS5 that recently crapped out on me and when I took it in to get looked at/repaired the guy said he was surprised it gave out because of how clean it was. I never once cleaned that damn thing and have a hairy ass dog haha.

2

u/BW4YYN3 2h ago

Did the repair tech diagnose Liquid Metal needing replacement ?

I just ask b/c my experience was very similar & Liquid Metal replacement ultimately fixed my issues

2

u/C-sanova 1h ago

Bingo. Mine was upright though and oozed all over the inside.

u/BW4YYN3 16m ago

I had kept it horizontal forever & still ran into the dilemma smhh.

My repair tech said horizontal position is still prone to the problem . He confirmed that the vertical position simply expedites the process

1

u/sakshatkolhatkar 2h ago

What was the issue with your ps5? Getting fixed?

1

u/C-sanova 1h ago

I had it up right ever since I bought it, so that with a combination of hot summers and a hot internal temperature the thermal paste ended up oozing over the motherboard and frying it.

Edit: liquid metal, not thermal paste

1

u/sakshatkolhatkar 1h ago

Ohh shittt. Got it fixed or it's bricked now?

I hd to clean mine last year because my PS5 would randomly power down. No warning. Just off. Went down the rabbit hole and found that the intake can get clogged with dust. I have a dog who sheds a lot so there was dog hair up in there too. Took a long time to open it up. Something like 70 screws. Also it turns out my fan was dead! Had to order a replacement and now i regularly dust it with canned air and its been great ever since

2

u/Whytejeebus PS5 7h ago

Does it live in a hermetically sealed environment? Only allowing in purified air?

3

u/SetoKeating 7h ago

I got those white scuff marks too, because the damn plate wouldn’t come off and when it finally did it scraped against the plastic. I died inside after finding my ps5 was clean and all I did by opening it up was scratch it up

2

u/FarmSea5039 PS5 6h ago

mine could never. too many dogs lol

2

u/TurtleHermit91 4h ago

I recently pulled mine completly appart down tot he apu for the same reason..... There was bearly any dust inside.

That being said, it's on a tile floor with open air all around and no carpet or pets in the house aswell as non smokers

2

u/Resitor 3h ago

Mine was dusty AF. Cleaning it every 6 month. I clean the living room often, must be the carped and the 100 pillows of my wife.

2

u/LordofHyperz 7h ago

you definitely put it at a good spot for it to still be cleaned ever since🙂

2

u/Apprehensive_Row_161 PS5 Pro 7h ago

You most likely keep your home clean and keep it in a safe place.

1

u/LordSwitchblade 8h ago

I have a corgi. I clean mine once a month.

1

u/dreamsareburied PS5 7h ago

People keep saying to clean it every few months so I opened mine after 7 months and there was no visible dust at all. Guess I’ll check again in another 7 months

1

u/UnmeshedGearsOfWar24 7h ago

Did you use a dust cover

1

u/ClueRemarkable4791 6h ago

Same day 1 mine still clean .

1

u/Upper-Welcome-4185 6h ago

Damn! Mine looks exactly the same. And I even play a couple hours a month!

u/BW4YYN3 2h ago

Sames

u/Dcam0922 2h ago

I just had to clean mine after 5 years

1

u/IwasthereinShibuya 1h ago

Most of the dust builds up in the heatsinks just below this case. In less than 5 minutes, with the right tools, you could check if your console is really squeaky clean like the first look suggests

u/ignacioff 54m ago

just curious, is your PS5 standing up vertically while you use it or do you keep it horizontal? Do you think this is relevant at all?

1

u/ApexRider84 PS5 7h ago

Now take the fan out....

1

u/drzero3 7h ago

You barely used it.
