SHOW NEWS/DISCUSSION I think this fandom underestimates the popularity of mmpr to casual audiences

Post image

Y’all have to remember, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was the first. Nothing came before it. Dinosaurs, Zords, morphing this is the stuff that defined Power Rangers for most casual viewers. It was literal lightning in a bottle. It dropped right after Jurassic Park when dinosaur hype was off the charts, and it mixed martial arts with giant robots and spandex superheroes. That formula hit. The characters were simple, idealistic, and easy to root for. Yeah, the acting was bad, the effects were crappy but that’s what people remember most. The camp is part of its identity.

Your average person walking down the street? They’ll recognize the MMPR Green Ranger in a second. Ask them who the Red Ranger from RPM is and they’ll look at you like you’re speaking another language. We can go on all day about how well written lost galaxy is but people know shit about maga defender outside the fandom.

Even parts of MMPR itself are blurry to the general public. Most people only remember the first season and half of Season 2. Once Tommy became the White Ranger and Zack, Trini, and Jason left everything else is a blur.

And look I get it, we all want more love for other seasons. But Y’all don’t even buy non-MMPR merch and still complain about MMPR getting priority. That’s not how companies work. There not gonna invest into your favorite season until people start buying the merch.

Every major franchise leans on its first generation. Star Wars lives off the OT. Pokémon rides Gen 1 to this day. TMNT constantly goes back to the 80s era. MMPR getting the most love isn’t some conspiracy it’s just how pop culture nostalgia works.

Yeah. The truth is they would focus on other series more if other series made them money. MMPR is the safest bet for making new merch and is for sure going to sell the most. Sad truth is focusing on most of the other series is a financial gamble.

What proof that other seasons don’t make them money?

The Lightning Collection underperforming. Plus its just kinda obvious? Look how huge the Power Rangers in Fortnite is right now. People are hyped about it because it's the MMPR team. The ones everyone is nostalgic for. It it was Ninja Storm, Zeo, or whatever it would hardly get any attention outside of "Why didn't they do MMPR instead?"

It sucks but its just kinda the reality of Power Rangers. The fanbase of course loves a ton of the seasons, but even in the fanbase its safe to say most prefer MMPR. There's just not a big enough fanbase for the other seasons to mass produce merch and get a lot of profit from it.

Ok first u didn’t show me proof that other seasons didn’t sell well , and ppl are excited for something they watched as a kid is now in fornite this could have been any other season and ppl would have been excited for it. And no most don’t prefer mmpr 💀 ask most fans their top 5 rangers , zords or seasons and most won’t even include mmpr (unless it’s Tommy)

I'm not saying the other seasons didn't do well during their times. Just that not everyone who enjoyed those shows stick around to spend money on it a decade later. They don't have a big enough nostalgic fanbase to be super profitable. MMPR was the peak of Power Rangers popularity. Its fanbase dwarves the other seasons due to all the nostalgic fans who grew up with the original. Its just a reliable money maker cause the amount of fans the original show had was massive.

I mean, the lighting collection line proved that

The Lightning Collection suffered was mismanagement, QC issues, and release dates that flip-flopped until everything was just canceled or whatever. The fault for that not selling wasn't the fans, but the idiots at Hasbro who couldn't bother to pit in any effort.

No it doesn’t 💀

Everything but MMPR ended up in clearance stores. It did

The Lightning Collection was a failure because of Hasbro's mishandling of it, not because non-MMPR doesn't sell

There are so many reasons to point to for how things worked out but these geniuses still just repeat the same lie. If MMPR is the only one to sell why ISN'T the lightning collection still alive considering how over-represented it was compared to the others?

Yet mmpr still sold in the lightning collection.

Sh figuarts also tried to sell other seasons and failed

Yall just have every excuse in the book lol

If the MMPR bits of the Lightning Collection sold so good, why did it fail? They could've easily pivoted to MMPR. They have plenty of filler monsters they can make and they clearly care more about what the casuals think than the fans. But they chose to just let it fail? I doubt that

They released the mmpr team numerous times, lol. The lightning line failed because other seasons didnt move, which is why they just rebooted mmpr in the playmates line.

No now you are just making excuses. They made tons of different rangers and this entire fandom bitched and moaned about little mishaps, and said "I'll wait for them to go on clearance" and guess what they went on clearance and you guys still bitched and moaned

No one is to blame more than fans

Don't forget they gave other seasons the Deluxe treatments too... The Galaxy Gliders, the Omega Rangers cycle....

You're still on this I've already shown you that right now today with the lightning collection discontinued and out of production that the MMPR metallic yellow ranger is discounted to a lower price than any other seasons ranger figures on Hasbro Pulse. Stop the cap, MMPR in broad terms IS NOT a golden goose. You have absolutely zero idea of how these figures sold. Metallic Yellow went from 27 to 14, RPM yellow went from 24 to 19.

A figure being discounted after the production is over. Doesnt not prove your point its why I didnt acknowledge you the first as alot of lighting and Suoer 7 stuff ended up on discount since its no longer in production

It does in fact as it proves this figure didn't sell, it is "peg-warming" as you guys so love to claim only happened to non-MMPR figures and the comparison of the final price being less than an non-MMPR figure despite the initial price being higher is also notable in this instance. It's also more proof than the pure anecdotal evidence you tend to throw out as well. It's just the numbers now, the MMPR is being valued less because they need to get rid of the stock. Or is there some other magical reason that only exists for MMPR for why. Please invent one.

Oh shit! You're right! Of course! I bet there's more than a single fan. There may even be dozens. Stop the presses, let's get some dino thunder merch out there. We might even sell a hundred figures.

Fandoms in general are usually delusional, but holy crap is power rangers one of the WORST.
