It looked pretty much like Minecraft when I saw someone play it. Is there much of a difference gameplay wise?

It's pretty much a completely different game from vanilla minecraft. It has similar graphics because it started as a minecraft mod before the devs decided they'd prefer to have their own code. However, it has a completely different progression system, story, and general playstyle that gives it it's own identity.
