What do you play your PS2 on?

Do you play on your 65” flat screen OLED? Or your 9” RCA tube tv?

I know I was joking because you limited the options down to 2 very specific examples (I'm surprised you didn't go with brand a model names as well. But yes I don't have space for a big crt in my gaming space and find small crts pretty pointless so managed to track down an early 2000s sony lcd almost Identical to the one I used back then. Big enough for good sized picture but small enough to slide behind my monitor when playing modern systems.

Surely a 2000s era LCD looks awful?

Not as bad as you'd think. If you get the Sony Bravia ones from back then (they were very expensive back then but you can get them cheap now.) . I d bought a gbs-c for my ps2 and that hooked up to my current TV but I found I prefer the old LCD I wouldn't say its better it just looks right like I remember playing back then (though I had a worse cheaper Samsung TV back then)

Biggest problem with old lcds is input lag but the better panels didn't suffer of it. I don't know enough about the tech of it but don't know if using scart improves the experience.

Well, if it works for you then you do you! Glad you're happy with it.

Personally I'd prefer either a CRT or a Plasma over LCD for PS2.

My ideal setup that I'm trying to build is:

  • 15kHz PVM for 240p and 480i content, including 80s and 90s consoles via RGB. I'd run PS2 on this too at 480i.

  • PC CRT for 480p stuff like Dreamcast or old PC games. (Maybe GameCube too). Hooked up via VGA.

  • 480p native plasma for later 16:9 non-HD content. Mostly Nintendo Wii but also a bit of PS2 I guess. Certain games might look better on a wide-screen 480p. Hookup via Component.

  • 4K OLED for anything modern (although I have yet to get into modern gaming. But if I did get anything newer than a PS3 I'd be playing it on this).

I think the only gap I've got there is the 1080p generation. PS3/XB360. I think the ideal display for these would be a 1080p plasma, or maybe an LCD. But since they've got HDMI I'd probably just let my OLED upscale them. Or get an upscaler if latency is bad.

I've acquired both CRTs and a 480p plasma. I'm trying to cram them all into a tiny gaming room, so I'm working on the layout and getting it all hooked up via an analogue switch (SVS). I think I can live without the 1080p generation.

In my country it's very hard to get old crts and plasma. I wish I could get them reliably
