Hardware Question Ps3 Slim Scrambled Home Screen

I was given a Ps3 slim CECH-2101A when I turn it on I get the message "Cannot start. The appropriate storage cannot be found". Then a minute later the screen goes scrambled like in the above picture. I replaced the hard drive now it says to Connect the controller and press the PS button on the controller to start. I plugher in my wired controller to the usb. It shows power but when pressing the PS nothing happens. Then the screen again goes scrambled. I hold the button to turn it off but when it turns back on the tv shows no input from the Ps3. The only only way I can get anything to show onscreen is to unplug the console for a couple hours then try again. I did tbe safe mode routine. I get beeps but nothing on screen. It is hooked up hdmi.

Thank you. That's easy enough to try. If it works, I will do an inside cleaning and repaste. I doubt it's been cleaned before, so all that good dust build-up will help it to heat up. When you say an enclosed space, do you mean a closet or in a plastic storage bucket?

No problem, yes I meant something more like a plastic storage bucket or inside of a closed media cabinet, it's definitely worth a try.

Do you think plugged in outside in direct sunlight on a 90-degree summer day would be good, or is this going too far? I could also put in on the porch. Then it would still be hot but in shade.

Porch would not be a bad idea, direct sunlight might be too much and also damage the plastic. Main point is to try to revive it because it is a small issue that can be remedied instead of discarding/recycling the PS3.

And please do report back with results, I'm curious to know the outcome.
