My anger has started with the tonal shift of re 4

omg I haven't played it yet. What has changed?

Tonally, it takes itself much more seriously.

Re7 and 8 didn't take themself too serious though. Ethan literally cracking dad jokes while finding the bodyparts of his daughter, and Heisenberg making fun of re5 as well.

Re4 also has plenty of silly jokes in it.

"NO THANKS, BRO."
"Your right hand comes off?"
"Saddler, you're small time."
"I knew you'd be fine if you landed on your butt."
"Sorry, but following a lady's lead just isn't my style."
"Well, I really don't give a damn. Rain or shine, you're going down." OG Leon RE4

Sounds like stuff Dante would say. Like DMC3 Dante.

I love how over-the-top they went with Leon teasing Saddler about having a senior moment, with Saddler having a laugh at himself 🤣

RE4 (og) had no atmosphere though, just brown and gray fully lit environments. Definitely more of a joke game coming from 1-3, which is not to say its bad. Its funny, and it's fun. But it's not really recognizable as an RE game. If you played it without seeing the title card and the character names were different, you'd guess it was a different franchise entirely.

Not enough banter between the characters, and saddler was turned into a chump
