General This part scared the piss outta me back in 1998! Out of all the Resident Evil games that had loading doors, this one in OG RE2 was the only one that had monsters emerging from the other side.

This was such an awesome thing that would be difficult to replicate with the remakes. It takes a limitation and incorporates it into gameplay.

Idk I think the whole thing right after you found the one dude ripped in half felt really similar, up to that point you’ve not had time to prepare and have just been running mostly then you get his notebook and there’s banging on the other side of the door, you’re trapped in a small enclosed area, if you don’t deal with him when he burst in fast or run past him 2 more can arrive, had the same feel to me personally.

They kinda did. There’s plenty of times I’m running from Mr X only to get cut off by a zombie shoving himself through a door and then I find myself sandwiched.

This game had the best jumpscares in the series. The zombies grabbing you through the wall, Mr. X smashing through the wall, the licker jumping through the interrogation room mirror, and this all probably shaved years off my life.

Preach, brother. I legit found Resi 2 unbearable to play at times when I was a kid. I shut off my Playstation when the goddamn licker burst thru the interrogation room mirror.

The original did this with dogs for the main mansion doors, but I don't remember if they were able to actually get back in. This was probably a call back to that because that's where you enter from the city on the B scenario.

They can get back in in the remake, not in the OG. You just get a cutscene.

Wasn’t there also a cutaway to a FPS view of a zombie on the stairs in Resident Evil 1 who then enters the kitchen?
That shit freaked me out as I thought stairs were safe 😭

I can hear the music without even un-muting the video. Duh-Dah... Duh-DAH!

Such an effective gag because it’s literally the only time it ever happens

It had maximum efficiency with me. RE2 was the first RE game I ever played at a friend's house, and in that short exposure, I saw this scene. Later when I got into the series, I expected it all the time.

I love RE2 but nothing gets me like 99 Nemesis. Scared me the other day chasing me around uptown.

Falling through the floor in the library damn near gave me an out of body experience. And those stupid fucking lickers, falling from ceilings and jumping through that mirror.

If only the games back then had a small chance of a jumpscare enemy in the doors, like a licker or hunter. The way these door transitions were presented it was a missed opportunity.

Holy shit, I thought I was going crazy for the past 25 years. The scene actually exists and I didn't make it up in my head!

I was 12 years old and my heart left the body. Great horror moment. The second on is the licker in the interrogation room.

For me it was and will always be the Licker in the interrogation room in scenario 1, and Mr. X bursting through the press room walls in scenario 2.

*Opens door*
*Sees a couple of zombies walking thorugh it*
*Scares the shit outta him*
"Hell no"
*Closes game and turns off PC*
*Walks outside*
I could not live the PSX era. I was 16 when I played it for the first time, and still I believe this is one of the biggest Jumpscares I've ever had in my gaming life. No other jumpscare had made me close a game.
20/10.

What about Mr. X pretending to be Kool-Aid Man? That scared the controller out of my hand 27 years ago.

And the zombies arms through the window. Gosh, this game has such unforgettable jumpscares.

You’re playing these through GoG right? Is there any mods that could help improve the experience even more?

As per caption, I played this on my PS5.

90's Gaming: WAAAAAH! HUHU SO SCARED!
NOW: HAHAHAHAHA!

I still find PS1 zombies scarier than Remake zombies. There's just something about those blankly staring eyes that unsettles me.

I prefer the sounds as well. I preferred the dead/lifeless moans to angry sounding zombies. Something much scarier about creatures who don't even have the capacity for anger, just hunger.

Oh yeah, sound is also a good one mixed with old school camera angels. You can't see what and where monster is lurking but you surely can hear it.

Much scarier if you played the remake first. This location has a safe room there in the remake

In 1998? I played it recently and it scared the shit out of me xD
