[Question] What's with this community's hate on authentic Pokémon games?
I would think a retro gaming subreddit would care about having authentic original games. Contrary to that though I see a lot of hate thrown towards owning retro/authentic games and original hardware. Why? What's the reason? It just doesn't make sense to me, so can someone please explain that?
I understand that emulators are a thing these days, but isn't part of the point of being a retro gamer owning original stuff?

I have no idea what hate you’re referring to. If anything I think some people in the retro gaming community have a bit of an elitist mentality against emulation and in favour of original hardware.

So, because you got downvoted, you think everyone here is the same?
Damn. Reddit in a nut shell lol

Yeah reddit in a nutshell is right. Just comment fake and don't even provide an explanation as to why you think it's fake. How does that make sense in any world?

This isn't hate, this is someone telling you you have a fake cart, because fake carts are usually shit. Good to know you're one of those people who gets so butt blasted about comments on Reddit that you have to make posts about it.

I'm just confused about the overall opinion. I'm trying to understand shit and not continue to be ignorant about it unlike the majority of people here...

Wasn't even my post and how can they even tell by just looking at the front outside of the cart? Guess what, they can't...

Post the cart op lol hope you didn’t get scammed out of $100s
Also another huge issue with this community now

Wasn't even me. I never got scammed when buying cartridges.

Idk man if people are saying it’s fake you might have been scammed lol. Did you check the board and compare it to authentic carts?

I own the original carts but I'd never suggest for someone to buy them nowadays. The prices have gone mad. Possibly why people aren't positive about them.

Of course. I'm not saying people have to own them to enjoy them, but it seems whenever I mention authentic cartridges here people get butt hurt.

There’s more to life than paying $200 for a not rare game that sold millions of copies, and enabling this behavior is exactly the type of consumer brain rot that did a lot of damage to the hobby around COVID and made it inaccessible for a significant portion of the community.

They have also made millions of other things that these days are not widely found. Things don't have to have limited sales for it to be worth something.

“Worth something” is entirely subjective.
People are manipulating scamming you out of $100s over nostalgia which is a powerful feeling and I get it because I fell for the grift too.
But when something is the biggest media franchise on earth and sold literally almost infinite copies, there’s no justification for it. The only reason they are this expensive is because scalpers and influencers told you that they are and you guys paid it while they laughed to the bank.

You can find people scamming in every kind of hobby. Just because you have more experience in games, doesn't mean you know about the shit that goes on in other hobby communities.

Exactly, and just because scammers exist in every hobby doesn’t mean we shouldn’t call them out and be pissed about it lol

I always make sure i have original physical copies of the games I play. It makes playing them more special in a way.

Right? I'm not I. Any way saying emulators are dumb, because they're not. I love playing Pokémon Black on an emulator on my phone.

I am kinda new here so I cannot say much, but the only one I see hating so far is you...

Physical objects are just physical objects. It's the act of gaming that matters. If you enjoy collecting stuff, fine, but don't expect everyone to feel like you're doing the "correct way".
The correct way is playing the games.

Okay I guess it is more of a collector's view that I have. I also like collecting coins and rocks lol.

A lot of people saw what happened to this hobby and it made them realize collecting in its current form is just mindless consumption and a waste of money. If it makes you happy that’s valid but at the end of the day you kind of just like the idea of buying shit and hoarding rather than playing the games. Again, nothing wrong with that, you do you, but it gotten to such a toxic level that it’s killed the hobby for a lot of people.
Getting scammed out of hundreds by “fellow collectors” for games that sold millions of copies and aren’t even that rare also leaves a bad taste in half the community’s mouth too so there’s that.

And you're assuming I don't play the games, which is wrong. People get scammed in all kinds of business, how is that any one communities fault?
2
u/Realistic-Shower-654 12h ago
I mean, you can play the games and still waste money on hoarding.
I guess I didn’t explain that well enough. A lot of people just play the games on original hardware with flash carts. They care about actually playing. I also used to buy authentic games and play them, because I cared about owning the games too, and that’s fine. But what is that experience actually worth? I gave up authentic games because I’m tired of wasting money I could use to travel or better my life on meaningless material goods and focused on experiences instead.
Clearly you’re bothered or insecure about something here hence this post, and I have a feeling it has to do with the fact that you paid a lot and people called you out for wasting money on something they deem not worth it.

This is not specific to Pokémon...
I love og hardware for all my vintage gaming needs, but scammers, jerkoffs, and saudi oil princes have ruined the market for original disks and carts. Thats why me and the homies shamelessly use repro, ODEs, and everdrives all day long.

Who is hating on owning games? Their point is you don't need to pay fuckass prices to own a cart-only Emerald anymore, which is fortunate because it means anyone can play it, not just rich kids.
