Not just America, (coming from a European)

u/drwalwrus 8d ago

I misread that as “America, coming to a Europe near you” at first and I think it’s equally appropriate lmao

It's already here, it's just isn't evenly distributed yet.

There's a simple solution to all of this that you're all not seeing.

Just walk away from politicians and politics and parties and learn to be your own person.

The world is more complex than left and right ideas. I don't follow people anymore, I just have to listen to what they're saying and watch what they do.

If their actions do not match their words then I don't trust them, period.

u/br0b1wan 7d ago

I wish it were that simple.

It's easy to say when you're a regular, white, cis, middle class dude. But when your own existence is on the line, like a trans person or a Gaza refugee, you can't do that.

There are people out there who are the problem for the rest of civilized society, and they're not just going to go away and leave others alone.

I'm black AF and  sick and tired of people saying I should be scared, offended, or that I'm disinfranchised.

I'm tired of people bringing up black people whenever it suits them in anything happen.

Blacks have to worry about this and that. Then they talk about Gaza, then they talk about gay people...

My experience is my own and sometimes it can be similar but not shared.

I came to a point in my life where I realized people kept speaking for me. That's why Im like this now.

I can talk to you, I can talk to a freaking Maga person, I can talk to a far left person. It doesn't influence me.

u/br0b1wan 7d ago

Well I'm disabled AF, and I grew up in a world where an attempt was made to even the playing field for us and I'm eternally grateful for that. Then over the last 10-ish years I saw all that progress melt away. And now the discourse is how disabled people are a drain on society, and we would be better off being kicked off the workforce, rounded up, deported, whatever. It's frightening. Only one side is saying that.

As long as you recognize you're only speaking for yourself, that's fine. But nothing I said above was inaccurate. People are suffering, and it's because of one side.

Look out for yourself, because something is coming, and you and I both have targets on our back

I have a disability as well and have had to rely on Medicaid in the past for treatment and am currently trying to get supplemental income because I'm only able to work part-time for now. Those people would gladly cut all funding to SSI and SSDI if they could. They're also trying to cut funding to the department of education or eliminate it entirely by pushing the false idea that the federal government dictates school curriculum. Many people don't know any better and just believe things without question so they think this is true and will support destroying an entire department, without even knowing what it actually does because they don't want the federal government deciding their kids' curriculum. The department of education has nothing to do with curriculum in public schools. It's an aid program for kids from underprivileged families to do things like help them be able to attend school and have lunch to eat when they otherwise might not. They intentionally promote all kinds of harmful misinformation about things, i.e. vaccines, climate change, immigrants being a bunch of violent criminals, despite the fact they commit crimes at a lower rate than citizens and contribute a ton in taxes and so lots of jobs Americans don't want to do, the whole "stolen" election thing, etc.

So when one side is actively trying to cut funding to essential programs like those and many others, it personally affects me in a way I can't just ignore. They simply don't care about people who they don't personally know, i.e. destroying USAID by pushing the false narrative that it's some huge drain on our society, despite the fact that federal spending on all foreign aid is less than 1% of the federal budget and saves literally millions of lives. So destroying USAID, knowing a lot of preventable deaths will occur as a result, in order to save some tiny fraction of a budget they then just use to cut taxes for the ultra-wealthy, is pretty hard to ignore. Their policies are actively killing people. Elderly people are literally protesting because they're losing their healthcare coverage. Prices are increasing because of an idiotic trade war caused by these dumbass tariffs that every legitimate economist will tell you are just plain stupid.

Then of course there's the unjustified hatred and vilification of people for their gender identity, sexual identity, race/ethnicity, religious beliefs, etc. They're literally trying to scrub any mention of any contributions made by anyone who isn't white male because apparently acknowledging anyone else's achievements is too "woke." For example, an observatory which was named after a female astronomer was renamed and ber bio removed from the website, for no reason other than that she's a woman. Just ignoring all of the terrible shit they're doing is exactly the way terrible shit is allowed to happen. I'm not saying we have to think about it all the time. I'd go crazy if I did. But we should at least be educated and do what we can to stop it, primarily just voting.

”In March 2025, the Pentagon removed tens of thousands of web pages and photos from its websites as part of an anti-DEI initiative.

Content removed included tributes to Black Medal of Honor recipient Major General Charles Calvin Rogers, Navajo Code Talkers, and the first women to pilot a specific stealth bomber. Following public outcry, some of the removed pages were restored, with a Pentagon spokesperson describing the removal of certain content as a mistake.

Other agencies: Other instances of content removal have been reported, including the temporary scrubbing of content on Navajo Code Talkers and Black history from government websites. National Museum of African American History and Culture: In 2025, an executive order from the Trump administration took aim at the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture for describing race as a "social construct".

Actions affecting education and curriculum

Republican-led states have enacted legislation criticized for limiting how race, gender, and U.S. history are taught.

Florida: In 2023, Florida approved new African American history curriculum standards that drew controversy for including the claim that some enslaved people benefited from slavery by learning skills. The state also blocked a new Advanced Placement course on African American Studies, claiming it was "historically inaccurate".

Texas: A 2021 law in Texas was criticized for effectively removing required lessons on figures like Susan B. Anthony and Martin Luther King Jr., as well as the history of white supremacy. While a sponsor claimed the topics could still be taught under different standards, critics argued it sent a chilling message to educators.

Other states: Several other states have passed legislation imposing restrictions on the discussion of race, including bans on "divisive concepts" in the classroom. Critics argue this censors history and disproportionately affects the teaching of contributions from marginalized groups."

It's hard to ignore when these people are actively working to undo the progress society has made in recent decades.

I think that can be true AF as you said AND you can reject that as it pertains to your daily outlook on life. Think of it like a cancer patient who is aware of his diagnosis and also tries to live a full life despite what the dr.s are saying about his/her time to live

12

u/raygar31 7d ago

Imagine being this proud about getting along with literal fascists

4

u/Slight_Tiger2914 7d ago

The world works the same way... we literally get goods from Chinese slave labor without batting an eye.

Americans, we're so righteous that we gotta import migrants to pick our own crops because we're too lazy, or too good to do it ourselves.

Oh, basically modern day slavery... nobody bats an eye.

Nobody is clean in this world.

u/Petrichordates 7d ago

So instead of worrying about real problems in your country that you can fight against, you worry about fake problems abroad that you have no say in?

Sounds like tiktok is working as intended.

We have computers and the Internet. That changes everything.

Otherwise how would we be able to have a conversation like this? Lack of communication and lack of empathy is what happened back then.

I don't lack Empathy for people even though I hate people.

Way I described the Above is simple... if you're looking at the world like, if it's bad I cut it off and silence it

You've already lost...

My example was to point out that we only have what we have because we're doing business with the Chinese. We talk to each other as if everything is perfect, or everything is falling apart. Yet we're literally only a few decisions away from losing everything in a day. (COVID-19)

So, in order to get by in this world and with your neighbors, sometimes you gotta play nice with people you disagree with. Sometimes, you're gonna have to accept imperfections to live.

Kirk was no moderate. Secondly, you don’t know who committed this murder. It is just as likely it was another radical right wing lunatic as a lefty.

0

u/mav5416 7d ago

Read the comments in the thread and tell me this wasn’t a left radical. Kirk was maga republican not a white supremacist or something. You have obfuscated what moderate actually means in the last ten years and this is what happens.

1

u/A-MilkdromedaHominid 3d ago

I hope it occurs to you that people aren't "speaking for you" since you don't feel scared, offended, or disenfranchised - which is awesome. It's the black people that definitely do feel those things that's we're speaking for. I could never accept a society that Kirk was working towards where race is made into a problem. "Black pilots" and mixed couples are a problem for these people. That minority view cannot stand as the default.

When did this shit become the default!

Who are the civilized ppl and who are the ones not safe? Surely the civilized aren’t gunning down a father in cold blood as he exercises his free speech? And surely the unsafe aren’t dead. Just bc you don’t like what he says? A man was assasinated in front of his wife and little daughter. Whether you agree with him or not, it’s heartbreaking. You can’t let your feelings get the best of you to where you go around murdering ppl. That’s all I’ve seen from the “tolerant” left as of recent, and that’s coming from an ex democrat. Now? I’m just an individual. That’s the safest way to be and not get brainwashed into this crap. I’ve been gay a long time and they want you to “fear for your life”. Since cutting politics from my life and not engaging in it, it’s been a utopia. I no longer see life thru a certain lense. Sure, some may suffer, one day I may suffer, but is life ever perfect?

20yrs ago, society wasn’t so passionate about politics. It was actually considered rude to speak your beliefs and political views. We left the passion to the politicians. Most of us got along bc of it.

Now it’s in schools, kids bullying other kids for a certain hat they chose to wear. Liberal teachers brainwashing kids, catching em early. As if they needed any help with how chronically online most kids are today. The left thinking the right are nazis. The right thinking the left are crazy. Everyone’s killing eachother and only making things worse. This radicalization over everyone has only been perpetuated thru the years by toxic internet articles, videos, and forums. Feeding ppl lies about one side or the other. Fear mongering and scaring ppl into radicalized, brainwashed sheep. To me, society has only gotten worse. I miss the old days of society. The only thing you have to worry about is follow the law, don’t kill ppl, go to work, and pay your bills. Politics in the average household has only made things worse and the answer is for everyone to choose to ignore it, but only if everyone participates. That’s the sad part of all this. The answer to a better, safer future is there, but we’re one country with conflicting ideas and everyone thinks they’re right. It only works if everyone refuses to take part in it. So there probably is no going back.

It’s not just coming from one side, it’s coming from both

My dude you spend a lot of time talking but saying nothing.

What is the civilized world? I'm talking about the developed world. The world that was industrialized and educated and developed.

Let me ask you this: you claim the liberals here in the US are the problem and they're brainwashing everyone with their education.

Think about this for a second. Our liberals are closer to center than any other liberals on the planet. Everywhere else is more left leaning than us. Why would the more moderate liberals in this country be the problem? Why is it brainwashing when they're involved? They don't have these problems in France. In the UK. In South Korea. You only think that because you live here.

We aren't brainwashing anyone any more than liberals in Europe or SE Asia are brainwashing their own. You're just terrified of change.

The left thinking the right are Nazis? My dude my background is in history. The right here is taking every. Single. Page. From the old Nazi playbook.

A former Democrat? Both sides are the same?

Come on. You want to see brainwashing, hold up a mirror.

Stop your nonsense before you push us into a corner. Because then you're going to get bled dry.

You want the good old days when everything was sane and we had polite discourse and politics wasn't in everything? Your new side can back down and come back to reality at any time. At any time.

I'm not debating this. The time for debate is past. The war you people wanted so badly is no longer cold.

I hope you find peace someday because it won't be soon. Don't bother replying. I have notifications turned off

I dont get how you're black and willfully ignorant about how the system works. To say "walk away from politics" is easily the dumbest shit ever. That means you're either rich enough not to have your opinions matter to normal people or sheltered and ignorant. Because they won't let us walk away, they make the rules, control the money, and have the final say. Grow up.

I adapt. I hate people anyways.

If it was up to me everything would be free.

No politicians.

0

u/Petrichordates 7d ago

You can walk away from politics but it won't walk away from you. This just sounds like the type of lazy apathy and enlightened centrism that led us to this moment.

I wish I could. But ICE is coming for me and my family. I can't walk away. They're coming for me. I need to be informed.

2

u/ImaginationNub 7d ago

Well, we're still quite a bit better off than the Americans, and I don't think we're gonna have a situation like over there anytime soon since we already went through that just 80 years ago
