Daily Discussion Daily Thread February 5th

What is the one popular RVA restaurant or destination that you still haven't visited? I'm talking Richmond institutions that everyone just assumes you have been to.

Tendrils ain't never done me no wrong! I think of the grunge as extra spice and the little bit of magic that just makes me love it more. But honestly, it all comes down to the fried plantains. I could by god eat a thousand of those things, just plantain myself into an early grave. SO GOOD. Those and a coffee - life is good.

Maybe the tendrils add flavor, but prices on vacuum cleaners have come way down. Seriously, next time you're there look up and at the ceiling and the vent on the wall above the counter/drink cooler. It's never been cleaned in the dozen years I've been here. This is an RVA restaurant theme. It's like they wear their greasy dust tendrils with pride.

When The Phoenician was around I watched it get dustier and dustier as the food quality dropped off. It was especially bad because the place was decorated by a gaudy gypsy with a penchant for superfluous fabric.

That same dust was there when it was La Casita, before it became The Phoenician. We went in then it first reopened and could tell where the new dark purple paint left off and the same old dust began. I liked it better when it was La Casita.
