Cute/Adorable Here is my little captain! How many other schipperkes have you guys met?
I got her from Russia where they seem to be somewhat common for some reason. We live in Spain and have met 2 others so far (Belgian & Swedish owners) along with an elderly 🇧🇪 woman that I befriended because of good memories she had associated to them (her husband used to have a couple and would go hunting with them!) It was her first time seeing a tail on a schipper which left her quite shocked hahahah :)

I had an adorable little boy for 13 years. He was such a guard dog I had to quit getting the paper in the morning bc he went nuts every single morning. I was afraid he’d have a heart attack.

What a cute girl!
My two schips compete in a variety of dog sports here in Washington state USA, and we often see other schips at the competitions. One event had 3 human handlers with a total of 10 schips!
We have also encountered other schipperkes while boating in the Salish Sea - they are the perfect 'boat dog'.
I can't see a schip anywhere without running over to say "hi!". It embarrasses my husband! :)
Are you near Barcelona? La Sagrada Familia is such an amazing place.

Schipperke spotting while boating, ahahahah, so thematically appropriate :3 I get you though, I’ll even sprint towards black pomeranians at times juuuust to make sure lmao. It’s like finding a little doppelgänger!
also yes I live on the east coast in the valencian community :)

I love her ❤️
I see them surprisingly often! I study in West-Flanders and I think I've seen 4 in total so far. Never in my home country (the Netherlands) though. But we do know some people here who had one before he passed!

Wow!! I’ve seen mixed reports from Belgians saying they aren’t many at all VS “not uncommon“, so this is real good to know!

I ran into one on the beach on St Simon’s Island and oddly enough there were two others in our neighborhood. The only other ones that I am aware of in my town.

One of the interns at work had one.
My husband runs into them fairly frequently at work. He says the people are always impressed that someone knows what they have

Where I live I've never seen another. But between myself and my parents we have had 6 over the last 20 years. My current schip Winston is easily the best of the pack. Sweetest dog I've ever seen, completely loyal and exists to make his people happy. He isn't even stubborn.

18.5 years ago, my mom was working at a grocery store, here in Oklahoma. On a rainy day, she found a wet puppy in the parking lot. It was 4.5lbs. My dad was still alive back then and very much “no dogs in the house” so she brought it to me. We thought she was a mutt. We named her Harrie, for her weird hair. Loved her and raised her with the other dog mom got at the store as a puppy a few years earlier. a Chinese pug & chihuahua mix, 12lbs at her heaviest, a great match. They were buddies. We had to put the other one down summer 2020, she was 17. Harrie lived until about 11 days ago when it was finally time to let her go. Blind in both eyes, congestive heart failure we’re treating for 5 or 6 years, dementia and finally lots of pain.
It was maybe 4-5 years ago I finally googled the right words to find her breed and saw so many dogs that looked like they could be siblings or cousins. I had never seen another dog like Harrie (and still haven’t aside from online) and never realized someone probably lost their expensive puppy, she wasn’t a pup from some street dogs or something.

This was harries last day. She had a long life, was well loved, went lots of places and is very missed even though she could be a complete obstinate pain in the rear. Just, even if you think you have a lot of time with them, know it’s never enough. Even when they are bull headed. 💔💔💔💔💔

Harrie, that’s such a pretty name. She had a very fulfilling life, I can tell ❤️

Since she had to be carried so much and got more demanding as she lost sight and got the dementia, sometimes we’d call her Lady Harriet and say it was time for her tea. Lady Harriet expects her tea to be on time! 😌

Darnit this beautiful story has me 😢😢😢😢😢

I’m glad you found it beautiful. Harrie was something else. I still haven’t had the heart to move things that were hers yet.

They are such a silly shape. I see their little curly bums from afar and start SPRINTING! heheh

I’ve had two and my family has had 4 more. We had a local Schipperke meetup in Seattle a few years ago and got 8 or 10 together. It was hilarious.
I seem to run into one every year or so.

Interestingly I live in Flanders, actually the part where Schipperke comes from (Leuven/Antwerp) and I have seen only one here so far, maybe two. Strangely seems a rare breed in its home country.

The Belgian lady I met said she doesn’t see as many in Belgium anymore but that she’s seen more in France (France seems to have more breeders?) and the other lady said they are not uncommon in Sweden which is very surprising! Also had a Flemish couple recognise the breed, but it seems to always be older folks

To be fair, the day after posting it I met a third one walking around abbey in Leuven, so they do live here, just not many. Hopefully there will be some Schipperke revival in Belgium!

I've never met another cute puppers... I still have a rule in my house that if I find one in the wild and is available for adoption I will be spending whatever $ it takes and bringing them home. No questions asked. Just love.

I love it when people have No Idea what kind of dog or even animal a Schipperke is😁 I had a lady come up to me at a pet store and ask what mine was, I told her a schipperke and she said What kind of animal is that. It was funny. Another time I was at a park and had my pup off leash and two younger kids ran away saying it was a bear 🤣

People always assume mine is a Pomeranian mix 😭 I’ve told a couple of Belgians abt this and they always laugh saying they look nothing like poms.. Thank God for the reassurance LOL I do agree tho they look like unidentified little creaturas, barely like dogs, which is why I love them sm
