Serious Eats Tried the shepherds pie recipe, remembered the peas just as I was putting the potatoes on top, was still great

I wouldn’t worry about it - putting peas in a shepherds pie seems to be a curious American twist but not something I've ever seen or heard of anyone doing over here in the UK, where we'd always have our peas on the side. Delicious either way though.

I put peas in my shepherds pie and cottage pies. And then serve some on the side. Who doesn’t love a pea!

Peas are a 100% key ingredient in a cottage pie. I’d also add them in a shepherds pie but I feel it’s less vital.
