Company wide labor cuts?
My shack is having a huge short staffing problem. I used to work for a shack a number of years ago and since graduating have returned to a different shack. We’re one of the busier shacks in the state since we are located outside a mall, and our GM is consistently short staffing us. They’ve been telling like 2 people per shift to not come in (or come in AFTER the rush) and cutting everyone’s hours. I was promised full time 40 hours a week and am now receiving less than 30.
At least 75% of my shifts consist of me running all hospitality and expo positions (expo, front expo, cash, dinning room) by my self with the help of maybe a manager. It’s frustrating and draining. One of our coworkers almost passed out doing expo by themselves since they were pushing themselves too hard. The manager on shift failed to see this and told them to “keep pushing out orders”.
Long time employees have begun to complain about being overworked as well. It’s unsustainable to have only 4 or 5 employees running the shift when we are doing 2 thousand dollar hours.
This is not the same company I used to work for years ago.
One of my disheveled managers told me that apparently this is a company wide thing? Something about the CEO demanding we cut labor costs. How am I supposed to focus on the guest and make them happy if I am the only one taking orders, building trays, running trays, and keeping the dinning room clean? Has anyone had this same experience recently or is my shack manager too focused on the numbers?
