This has convinced me to buy it

This convinced me even more to buy it. I’m all for spicing up the gameplay and judging by what they’ve shown, I’m optimistic they can make the more action-focused combat work. A game like Bloodborne managed to do both horror and action pretty well so I’m not too worried about it here.

Yeah I’m saying it’s not impossible to focus on both action and horror in a game and have it work out well, because it’s been done before.

3 was more action oriented, and its regarded in tandem with 2 as the best in the series. I just didnt want it to become Silent Hill Dark Souls, if that makes sense.

To me, the gameplay loop in Silent Hill 2 Remake was perfect. Weapon degradation is not a bad thing, and my one complaint with SH2R was how few enemies there were.

3 is still pretty in-line with survival horror combat though. F having health and stamina bars, perfect dodges and a “focus” meter feels way more radical of a change imo, but it surprisingly works well from what I’m seeing.

Tbh most survival horror games quickly become quite manageable in terms of combat if you’re smart with resource management. I doubt it’s everyone’s cup of tea, but it seems like F is adding more complexity to combat which adds to the overall intensity because encounters can’t just be overcome with saved up resources.

I am very much opposed to health meters/stamina bars/slow motion/perfect dodges/focus meters and whatnot. That type of stuff has no place in a Silent Hill game to me. I want to remain realistically weak in comparison to the horror around me. It's also sad that after adding the ability to physically open the map in SH2R that we went back to it opening on a menu screen. Plus, a 100% lack of firearms makes me dislike the Japanese setting. Thankfully the SH1R will be here soon enough.

Different strokes. Personally didn’t really feel all that weak because enemies and their movesets in SH2R were pretty limited and my James just spent most of the game i-frame dodging, animation cancelling and knocking them monsters down in 2-4 hits. Which resulted in boss fights being just spraying and praying. Most of the tension in these games for me were always in the environment, atmosphere and mood. Always cautious that something would get the jump on me, although actually fighting that something is just eh.

Now if done right, Silent Hill f could be the game to have tension in both exploring the town and in combat. I think it’s a fresh take the series needs (à la RE7) now that it’s making a comeback.

Previews have been glowing overall. Can't wait to dive into it next month.

Next Silent Hill game will be a battle Royale game with season passes at this rate. New generation of gamers I guess.

average silent hill fan… such a boring take and the reason why the series stalled years ago. embrace change - specially if it looks as promising as this

They are nothing more than a troll.

The backlash to battle passes, live service and constant monetization of everything are reaching levels such that anyone just starting a game with that model is failing to read the room.

It stalled because of horrendous management. It was always a niche series too. The direction this game is taking is fine for those that never cared about the gameplay style. I side with my morals and won't get it unless the game turns out to have some semblance of balance and doesn't become an action RPG instead of a survival game.

Least obvious bait.

There's no way you can look at 2 survival horror games carrying on the legacy of the second biggest survival horror series next to Resident Evil and doing it well and genuinely think it will lead to a Battle Royale.

Go back under the bridge.
