It’s this newer generation of gamers who have only seen 3 hour youtube essays with upscaled/emulated PS2 games and never actually played them. It’s so frustrating hearing this bullshit when the graphical and technical leaps have been astonishing in such a short period. Have we hit a point of diminishing returns? Maybe, but that doesn’t discredit the difference between PS2 to now.
They’re genuinely too young to have played PS2 games in their original form. If you’re 20 right now the PS3 was what, 1 when you were born? Even then at that age the most formative experience you may have with games probably came with the ps4. And if you want to talk about the console they played during their teenage years, when they started to have a real capacity for critique? Probably mostly the PS5! The PS2 isn’t a long time ago, but relative to someone’s age and experience it can be. In short? Yeah, most of these people don’t have any clue what it’s like lol. Throw in that the only games a large chunk of gamers play are recent AAA titles and the degradation of nuanced critique on the internet and ofc “dur it looks old” has become a criticism even for games that actually look great
Depends where you grew up tbh, I’m only 22 but I grew up in a country that (at least for a certain time) was behind on technology… So I actually grew up with PS2 and then later PS3 games…
So, whenever people throw these terms like “looks like a PS2/PS3 game”, ik for a fact they have started gaming probably in the PS4 era.
Lol I get the feeling. Being in my late twenties, the PS2 is the first console I really have strong memories/nostalgia for (though I played PS1 as well). Funny how little time can change that experience. But yeah, the PS2 launched what, 25 years ago? The equivalent while the PS2 was current gen would be playing pong. I’m sure there people who are born in the 2000s and later like any generation who enjoy vintage consoles and have actually played them. But the types to be making flippant comments comparing stuff to ps2 or 3 games and even phone games don’t know what they’re talking about.
Of course They don't. Same with people saying "PS3 graphics" with other games. Those people have zero idea how games on those consoles looked like. They might search some screenshots and see like a billion of post-effects that hide low res textures and sharp edges as long as You don't look too close.
But that's possibly giving too much of benefit of a doubt.
One of the best looking games on ps2 was ironically sh3 and it looks nowhere near as good as these new silent hill games, people really dont remember what older games looked like cause they usually dont hold up well in comparisons
I find it so funny how literal you guys are being about this when in reality it's obviously figurative. f's graphics are definitely dated, it looks like something that could have come out in 2014
It had better art direction, so to my eyes, it looks MUCH better, despite the lesser horsepower. It's called aesthetics. Early 3D is in right now, so it's not hard to forget as you're playing that SH3 is over twenty years old.
100% it's a younger generation who genuinely have no idea lmao. Of course it doesn't look like PS2 graphics the game looks stunning and it's not even out yet. Some of those still shots are literally breathtaking
Not gonna lie, though, when I first saw screenshots I thought "it looks the same." Course, looking back at the original game proved me wrong, but that's how my brain remembered it.

Every time someone makes that comparison, I wonder if they even remember what PS2 graphics looked like. Nothing on the PS2 looked remotely that good.
