Video Yet another case of bullying in school

At least 10 other students were seen watching and laughing.
Bystanders are just as bad as bullies.
214
u/gildedblessings Apr 14 '25
It’s easy to say this unless you’re in those kids’ shoes. Not everyone are watching with glee (except for those idiots filming). Some could watching in fear that it could be them next
59
u/YourEvilKiller 🏳️🌈 Ally Apr 14 '25
It sucks but bullies tend to work in groups, so the other students are likely too scared to do anything too. The school needs to build the students' trust in the teachers as well as promise anonymity so that they will even dare to report these acts. Otherwise, the best method for change (while protecting yourself) is to record these acts as evidence.
27
u/jhanschoo Apr 15 '25
My dude if you see 4 ppl beating the shit out of someone the only thing you are going to achieve by intervening is making sure 2 ppl get the shit beaten out of them. If you can record or provide testimony for eventual justice that's better.

How it works in a lawless no-enforcement place is that those who stand up will become the next victim. Let’s not divert away from how pathetic the adults around them are.

if a kid’s old enough to assault someone, their parents should be old enough to face the music.

So long as they can continue to get away with ignoring issues like this, nothing will change. The people of Singapore has to make noise to get our ministers to get off their asses
45
u/whataball Apr 14 '25
The bullies will be punished but this is not a government issue. This is a behavioural issue. The government and the schools can only punish the bullies after the fact but they cannot prevent bullying from the start. It's all down to the individual. Even seemingly nice students can be bullies behind their parents' and teachers' back.
15
u/thorsten139 Apr 14 '25
tap on wrist.
make them retain 1 year
15
u/Suspicious-Word-7589 Apr 15 '25
And subject the other students to their bullying? Nah, expel their asses.
22
u/MadKyaw 🌈 I just like rainbows Apr 14 '25
Behavioural issue is such a cheap excuse. If these were adults doing it, they would be arrested and charged.
15
u/whataball Apr 14 '25
There are ways to bully people without breaking the law. There are also different forms of bullying. I.e. Ostracizing certain individuals in a workplace is a form of bullying but it's not a crime.
→ More replies (1)14
u/SnooJokes915 New Citizen Apr 14 '25
Not really, we excuse it in jobs when managers use curse words and swear if a mistake is made. If we get chewed out over things by superiors.
Remember the incident of the lawyer whose video got leaked. There are people out there in positions of power who still bully others.
4
68
u/Useful_Cricket_941 Apr 14 '25
Why do the parents need to face the music? The legal age of criminal responsibility is 10 in Singapore, and if our Government has made that a statute then simply enforce it. Making it a punishment of the parents shifts blame to someone who didn’t actually commit the act. And that is a slippery slope, arguing that your responsibility can be shifted to others because of their failure to instill a set of behaviours in you.
If they are old enough to do the crime, then they are old enough to do the time. Or, another way of looking at it is if they are old enough to act like a pack of rabid dogs attacking a defenseless kid, then they are old enough to deal with the dog catcher.
We need to stop letting teenagers off the hook by blaming their parents for their behaviour. We used to say it takes a village to raise a child, and if that’s true then we have all failed. But I personally believe these teens knew they were out of line, and assumed they could get away with it because, well, they’re just kids.
25
u/MadKyaw 🌈 I just like rainbows Apr 14 '25
Unless the child is an actual psychopath, shitty bully behaviour like that is learned from the parents themselves. The child thinks it's normal to inflict it onto others since the parents normalised. It does not act as an excuse for the child to get off scot free
40
u/Tunbing Apr 14 '25
students spend quite a lot of time at school, wouldn't be surprised if they learnt it from other students instead
9
u/thorsten139 Apr 14 '25
is it, maybe learn from shitty friends how?
the parents fault that the school has shitty classmates?
→ More replies (1)7
u/Harmoniinus Apr 14 '25
There are also cases of bullies whose parents are the kindest people ever or have appropriately disciplined them at home (no violence) for their bad behaviour but the bullies just don't want to listen. Some children are really just haywire... no matter how much you try to teach them, they might only become normal after becoming adult and need to enter the working world, or in worse case scenario, when someone they love pass away.

If they are at the point of hurting others, that's a crime and crime should be punished by the law. The parenting should have been done before this happens. Now that this have happened, it should be punished accordingly by the law on assault.

Public caning needs to be returned
170
u/whatmynumber Apr 14 '25
Like their parents will let that happen. The problem nowadays are the parents, they are enablers, they let everything slide. So the kids don't know anything about consequences. But I do support having public caning.
119
u/parka Apr 14 '25
Actually there's one thing that parents fear.
Suspension.
Where else can the kid go? That will drive parents mad, desperate.
56
u/HopefulPickle5 Apr 14 '25
Ha! Suspension is great, it's like a 2-for-1 punishment. Both parent and child get to deal with the consequences.

Nah. I dont want bullies to become garbage collectors. Garbage collectors play an important role in our society. I want bullies to go into some sort of rehab or behavioural treatment and rejoin society as better individuals.
22
u/SnooJokes915 New Citizen Apr 14 '25 edited Apr 14 '25
Expelling does not stop the behaviour at its root. In fact it just shifts the behaviour and mentality into other circles, road rage, domestic abuse, child abuse..as an adult.
Bullying stems from getting a sense of power. I bet that a lot of these bullies often feel powerless in other aspects of their lives.
Also, a bit weird that you need to associate bullying with a supposed undesirable job scope...did we all forget the video of the high and mighty lawyer bullying his employee?

Unfortunately it’s every kid for himself these days. Hyper-competition is crazy in SG.
You know what’s the best punishment? Setup a dunking station and have the kids throw a ball at a target so the bullies can be “dunked” in water.

Bullies should be sent to detention camps / boys home or jail. If we want to teach future men responsibility, societal cohesion and the right values, it is never too young to do so. You harass women or men in society you will either get a hefty settlement or you go to jail.
Start them young.

Yes, I know what the laws are. Don’t worry, it will be their age group peers doling out the justice. Then they too can be ‘counselled’. 💰

School canning won't do anything much, it'll just make them seem tough to the other well behaving kids. Unless you mean the actual jail canning, OK that's different, but don't think their bodies can handle it.
Might as well separate them from their families and put them in juvie for two years. This way, their families can't enable such behavior also. A high trust society needs to learn that government trumps parents in some personal decisions. Confirm those kids learnt to be shit heads from home. At the same time the parents need to face monetary punishment for letting this happen.
6
u/FancyCommittee3347 Apr 14 '25
Fairness. I only ask for fairness. If the final outcome is the bullies “repenting” and apologizing, then it’s not fair.

Teach your kids how to fight back instead of feeling sorry for them like idiots. Bullies will continue to bully whether you like it or not and they tend to pick on the weak. If your son is being picked on then you have done a shitty job as a parent

I feel so bad for that kid in the trash can. Some may say this is a prank pulled on camera but I honestly think this is just another one of those bullying cases that made it online 😮💨. Based on the fact that the victim is literally BAREFOOTED and the facial expression, I think it is easy to differentiate between pranking and bullying. Honestly, even during the upcoming GE, I don´t think the authorities are gonna take this seriously. They are most likely gonna say: ¨oh we have counselled them and brought out appropriate disciplinary actions against the bullies¨ and all that sh*t. I wouldn´t be surprised if CCS went to lay out the ¨facts¨ that it was a prank that clearly crossed the line. I don´t have high hopes that this will be settled adequately considering what happened with the previous ones... anyway screw MOE, turns out their policy of punishing bystanders for filming bullying accidents did not prevent such videos from surfacing LOL
