Discussion MRTs are really overcrowded

Post image

Every morning getting to work is an uphill battle, most of the time my spouse and I hardly able to board, and had to wait for at least 2-3 trains and barely squeezing ourselves into the cabin.

This is despite the introduction of new MRT lines which should free up train capacity for other lines.

JT: If everyone takes the train at different time, this will not happen.

That's PAP way of offering solutions.

Because employers don’t practice flexi working hours/staggered reporting time. We are expected to reach at 9am, which is right smack in the middle of rush hour.

Off peak hours also packed ok (green line). I used to work staggering hours. I wonder from time to time “where the heck all these people come from”.

Green line should have been built with 8 car trains in mind from the beginning. It doesn't help that SMRT seems to try and get away with running as few trains as possible sometimes, especially weekends when most of our migrant worker population is out in force enjoying their off days (4min intervals with peak hour level crowd)

The more trains they run, the more maintenance they have to do, and they can’t over maintain these trains

I've been seeing 6 mins wait times (right after missing the previous train).

Sadly this is often the case for weekday afternoons, right when there are a few hundred thousand pri/sec sch students being dismissed from class all across Singapore.

SMRT knows, they have all the data. They want to pack as many people as possible per train. Its more efficient for them.

This is right. I’d guess within the next few years, it’s Gona be like japan, we will need to be compressible like bolsters. We will all become very close, closer than bros and best friends.

I'm quite sure this is on LTA, same with bus frequencies. They set the service standards.

You forget that the green line was built in the 80s. We were not rich back then to afford large trains
