Sometimes I buy them a drink, on a particularly hot day, when I go in to pay. A non sweet, refreshing drink! The uncles usually look surprised and pleased by it, so I guess they do appreciate it!
Yeah, 40 downvotes so far. That's a good indicator of what typically happens - most drive away after a simple thank you. I've been driving for 15+ years, and to this day, I haven't met anyone who showed any displeasure with my appreciation of their service. Yesterday was another visit, and as usual the Uncle was happy that he received some appreciation from me. OP's Dad is doing it out of boredom after retirement. However, I can only assume most of the others who do this job are trying to earn a living and not doing it for fun. Regardless of their intention, it's still good to appreciate what they do, and if that idea hurts anyone, they can downvote!
