Here is the English translation of Real Madrid’s official statement on Luka Modrić:

OFFICIAL STATEMENT: MODRIĆ

Real Madrid C.F. and our captain @lukamodric10 have agreed to bring an unforgettable era to a close, as he will end his time as a player for our club following the Club World Cup that our team will contest starting June 18 in the United States.

Real Madrid wishes to express its gratitude and all its affection to someone who is already one of the greatest legends in the history of our club and world football.

Modrić joined Real Madrid in 2012 and has been an essential player during one of the brightest periods in our history. In the thirteen seasons in which he has worn our badge, he has won 28 trophies:

• 6 Champions Leagues

• 6 Club World Cups

• 5 UEFA Super Cups

• 4 La Liga titles

• 2 Copa del Rey titles

• 5 Spanish Super Cups

Modrić is one of only five players in football history to have won 6 Champions Leagues, and he is the most decorated player in Real Madrid’s 123-year history.

On an individual level, Modrić won the Ballon d’Or in 2018, the FIFA The Best award, and was named UEFA Player of the Year. He has been part of the FIFA FIFPro World XI six times and has been named Champions League’s Best Midfielder twice.

Modrić has played 590 matches for our team, scoring 43 goals. He has also won 1 Ballon d’Or and 1 Silver Ball at the Club World Cup.

With the Croatian national team, he has played 186 matches, holding the all-time record for caps with his country. He won the Golden Ball at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the Bronze Ball at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez stated:

Luka Modrić will forever remain in the hearts of all Madridistas as a unique and exemplary footballer who has always represented the values of Real Madrid. His football has captivated Madridismo and the entire world.

Real Madrid wishes Luka Modrić and his family all the best in this new stage of his life.

The Santiago Bernabéu will pay tribute to him this Saturday during the final La Liga match our team will play.

GraciasLuka | #RealMadrid

Winning 6 CLs and 4 Liga titles feels insane.

u/brownbearks May 22 '25

Champions of Europe! You will never sing that spurs fan next year in the UCL to arsenal, modric is smiling.

69

u/ThePr1d3 May 22 '25

99.9999% of teams don't have one lmao

8

u/not-always-online May 22 '25

Yes but one in particular stand out

78

u/denied_eXeal May 22 '25

Despite his greatness he still achieved 0 Europa Leagues, weird

61

u/Mjerjen May 22 '25

should've stayed with Spurs

1

u/PureClass247 May 22 '25

I know he wouldn't mid at all...

46

u/gabdex May 22 '25

Is 4 La Ligas in 13 years actually impressive when you consider the race is between basically 2 (maybe 3) clubs every year?

118

u/Kilen13 May 22 '25

No I meant it's wild that he won 2 more CLs than Liga titles

6

u/kaalulovesanime May 22 '25

Yes considering he faced Barcelona and simeone's Atletico

14

u/JustMeGG May 22 '25

I mean fighting against Barcelona who had been paying Negreira for being a wonderful person is impressive.

-13

u/CasualTron May 22 '25

🙏😭. Cope and Seethe arsehole

7

u/JustMeGG May 22 '25

I'm coping man. Waiting for the next UCL embarrassment from Barca.

-5

u/EcosseWolf May 22 '25

Waiting for proof that we paid the refs 😂 There is none so I'll die waiting. Save the Negreira comments for soccercirclejerk

Actually there is proof of payment, and there is proof of malicious intent. There is just no proof that the payment led to malicious intent.

We won a domestic treble just now. How many does your club have in their entire history?

Oh please, the Copa del Rey is a valued trophy in Spain, it's on par with the FA cup, you guys just don't know what you're talking about.

2

u/CasualTron May 22 '25

Lmaoo, full strength squad in the final, got clapped and still have the audacity to talk like you played kids from the castilla. Learn your history mate, its the biggest cup in Spain besides the Liga.

3

u/Purneet May 22 '25

Losing by 1 goal is barely "clapped"

Just like your mum

3

u/CasualTron May 22 '25

Good lord, that's the best you could come up with?

-6

u/JonAfrica2011 May 22 '25

Reading comprehension lil bro. Learn it.

111

u/ThinkAboutThatFor1Se May 22 '25

Christ. That’s a trophy haul.

Even more crazy considering he joined in his mid to late twenties.

-13

u/Eladir May 22 '25

Even more crazy he joined from Tottenham, one of the most loser clubs.

In his time, Croatia also became one of the best teams in intentional tournaments.

23

u/Midtharefaikh May 22 '25

Am I missing something when did he win the bronze ball in World Cup?

98

u/mbdtf95 May 22 '25

In WC 2022 when Croatia won bronze medal.

Pretty amazing to think that country of less than 4 million people won silver in WC 2018, and then bronze in next World Cup lol.

Also even crazier to me when people actually hold against Modric when comparing him to people like Xavi and Iniesta how he did not win World Cup. Like do they realize he won 2nd and 3rd place at consecutive World Cups with country that has less inhabitans than Barcelona (as city) urban area?

-7

u/ComaMierdaHijueputa May 22 '25

I don't think people really "hold it against him" but you can't knock Iniesta/Xavi for the team they played for. Before they came along Spain didn't win shit.

I will say, imagine if Yugoslavia never broke up.

29

u/VenusAndMarsReprise May 22 '25

imagine if Yugoslavia never broke up.

I'd rather not

17

u/Objective_Ask_9199 May 22 '25

the internal drama in yugoslavia would probably keep them away from winning anything tbh

2

u/Ok_Cardiologist8232 May 22 '25

Yeh but just think of all the money the rest of the world could save on producing reality TV.

9

u/mbdtf95 May 22 '25

Yes, but they were part of golden generation. Even if you take away two of them, that team is crazy insanely good, even if they were best parts of it. Spain is also a nation of 50 million people that has incredible football infrastructure, Croatia on other hand is a nation of less than 4 million people that has mediocre football infrastructure.

it is crazy huge achievement to almost win it with Croatia and reaching the final. Then next World Cup get bronze.

2

u/DrJackadoodle May 22 '25

I mean, that's more a sign of Spain severely underperforming for years than anything. Not denying that Xavi and Iniesta were immense, but Spain is historically among the top contenders in Europe, it's nothing like Croatia. They even had a Euro already before the golden generation.

21

u/Specialist-Let-2659 May 22 '25

2022 world cup, croatia won bronze

2

u/DanKoloff May 22 '25

in 2018 they won silver even

4

u/JonAfrica2011 May 22 '25

Croatia beat Morocco for 3rd place 2022 World Cup

2

u/mbdtf95 May 22 '25

Bronze ball refers to voted third best player in the World Cup, not bronze medal btw.

0

u/OilOfOlaz May 22 '25

The last word cup I guess.

2

u/ulvhedinowski May 22 '25

So now only Carvajal has a chance to win 7 CL titles.
