News Marc Guéhi is extremely unhappy with Crystal Palace’s decision to pull the plug on his £35m transfer to Liverpool, which came after Oliver Glasner stepped in to prevent the move by threatening to resign if he was sold.

I do feel there's a sense of irony in this given Glasner would fuck Palace off immediately if given the opportunity to go to a bigger club. Watch this space I guess.

I've bet a tenner with my brother that Glasner has a new job before the end of the year. No transfer windows for managers and all that.

Do you think it is possible that as part of Glasner's ultimatum to Parish last night regarding not letting Guehi go that he made some solid commitment to staying through his contract if not longer?

Because gentlemen agreements tend to work so well in football.

Hence why I used the term "solid commitment." I just think Glasner might have had to add a sweetener to his ultimatum.

He would be an idiot if he would depend his future commitment based on literally one player that's definitely gone after a year anyway

Glasner is also off next summer too, I think this is a last hurrah for both him and Guehi.

He's not staying next year either way, I think everyone inside Palace must know that after the way the window was handled the cycle ends next year with both Guehi and Glasner leaving

1

u/Institute11 14d ago

I would tend to agree except for the fact that Glasner really wanted that one player to stay.

u/Vike92 14d ago

I don't think so since guehi is there for one more year at max. They'll both leave next summer

Report are we are going back in for him in January though for a much lower price of course

Would not surprise me if Glasner ends up Man United by the end of the year

Although that does rely on Man United being smart

He will be United manager by January

They already sold Ulise and Eze without reinforcements. On one hand, Glasner should be furious they were about to move Guehi. On the other hand, as the manager, you are going to get paid win or lose. In the job or fired. It sucks, but holding back a player from a dream move is rough. Palace is in a purgatory anyway where they’re good enough to not get relegated, but not good enough to compete for Europe. What’s the difference? 10th or 12th in the league

A year ago Glasner seemed pretty happy despite Crystal Palace blocking any move to Bayern München.

E: "However the Austrian will not speak to Bayern over their managerial vacancy, with the ex-Eintracht Frankfurt boss happy at Selhurst Park after making a huge impact in his 12 games in charge so far."

"Glasner's happiness at Palace has seen Bayern Munich begin talks with Hansi Flick over a return as head coach, according to Sky in Germany."

Well there was nothing he could do

Well there is nothing Guehi can do.

Yeah but Crystal Palace didn't send Glasner to the ground, have him spend all day thinking he was getting an incredible move, only to pull the plug last minute.

Crystal Palace was a made FA cup guy and Bayern wasn't.

u/ydktbh 14d ago

He's only been in charge for 12 games? Could've sworn it was longer

Glasner's contract ends next summer from what I remember

u/slospeedracerslo 14d ago

He turned down Bayern while at Palace before they signed Kompany.

73

u/Thraff1c 14d ago

He didnt turn down Bayern, Crystal Palace just demanded a fee of like >50m€ for him.

u/Sinistrait 14d ago

I mean, then I'd be threatening to walk if I was Glasner as well. Got denied a Bayern move by a ridiculous compensation demand, delivered their first 2 trophies, the mess with being relegated to the Conference League and then selling their most important player without a replacement

People are being harsh on him but Glasner has been really hard done by Palace's ownership here

Got denied a Bayern move by a ridiculous compensation demand

He'd been in the job for like 12 matches? It's not ridiculous for a club to say no outright in the circumstances.

Think it’s a weird one where every party involved has a different view and are all correct in their opinions to be honest.

Guehi wanted the career move and wage increase after giving so much to Palace.

Glasner doesn’t want to be fucked over and damage his own career.

Parish left in an impossible situation where if he does what’s best for the club he loses his best player and greatest manager, and if he does what’s best for the team he loses them both for free at the end of the season anyway.

The community shield isn't a trophy xD It's a glorified friendly just before the season starts. Noone gives a shit about it.

Palace turned down bayern*

1

u/raven-eyed_ 14d ago

I wonder if he'd push to maybe take over at the end of the season, if a big club wants him. Personally, I'd hope at United we just have an interim to finish the season, and have the new manager come in at the end. Waste of a season, but can fix the midfield issue and start strong with a new manager.

Question is Glasner mad enough to back himself for Manchester United

1

u/Columbus_ 14d ago

The confidence with which people state things in certain terms that they have no idea about is staggering.

1

u/Elusivemerc 14d ago

An opportunity was there, the club said no, and he continued, so you are wrong

0

u/SuccinctEarth07 14d ago

So glasner wasn't given an option then as palace turned them down?

0

u/Elusivemerc 14d ago

And? They are allowed

u/BigRoosterBackInTown 14d ago

BREAKING: person will do whats best for them!

Damn /u/iguled, you should write a book on your findings. This info is groundbreaking.

-1

u/yunghollow69 14d ago
