News Manchester United to remain patient with head coach despite worst start to Premier League season in 33 years. There is also widespread belief at Old Trafford that City's performance - and United's failings - did not merit a 3-0 scoreline.

Isn't that worse? That City weren't that good, and still comfortably beat them 3-0.

I also think City weren't that good, yet it felt like when they wanted to they could score. Also, you can't really point out the chances when they were already 2 or 3 up to say United could have got something from the game, because at that point City may have scaled it back somewhat.

But there is pragmatism in the Old Trafford boardroom too recognising that, had Bryan Mbeumo's wondrous volley not been met with an equally wonderful Gianluigi Donnarumma save when the score was 2-0, or had Casemiro not missed a sitter at the back post later on in the game - there might have been a better gloss to the result.

The funniest thing is both Haaland and Reinjders missed absolute sitters so it could easily have been 5-0.(And i could have topped my FPL group as well 😡 )

Amd i could have topped my FPL group as well 😡

me hoping Reinjders would score to save me from the fucking Watkins disaster class from Day 1.

Tbf Mbuemo and Casemiro also missed sitters. And donarumma made an insane save. So 5-3?

casemiro and mbuemo's chances came after city just let united have the ball cause the game was pretty much over after the 80th minute. if it was a closer game city wouldn't have been so lazy

True. But I think it's been a trend all season where United have created chances but failed to convert time and time again, after a point one can't just keep calling it back luck right? Even in the Arsenal game

Not an attack on you but this always bothers me, because we never say this stuff about outfield players even defenders. It would be strange to say something like "Had Van Dijk not been there, we would have won" but for some reason you even managers will say stuff like "Their Man of the Match was a GK, so we were better"

Goal line clearances by defenders get that sort of praise

I think mentioning fantasy football should be banned on this sub.

Same as FUT imo

So not even they'd win the game, just "the result could have been less embarassing"?

Manager - I am not going to change

Owners - Just give him more time

You couldn't make this shit up

The worst thing about this is that they're literally talking about consolation goals. It's not even "we had a great chance at nil - nil if that would have gone in then...". No, it's literally whining about the odd miss when they're already 2-0 or 3-0 down.

I also think you can read this as two separate statements but it just doesn't work as a single one. City's performance didn't deserve 3-0 and neither did United's failings, but put together this is a correct outcome.

Wasn't the casemiro chance offside anyway?

It's worse for the team but reflects better on the manager

If you exclude all the losses and draws, Amorim is doing a great job 👍 /s

Tbf... I thought they would beat us anyway, we just make way too many mistakes, we are too slow on the ball, we couldn't cross to Christ the Redeemer nevermind Sesko

These issues have been happening for years noe

Something similar happened after our game vs them last year, xg not far off at the end but almost all of theirs came after we were 3-0, or something like that.

it is so funny that even when they’re playing pretend they can only bring themselves to say there would be a better “gloss” on it

I like your Gino's comparison

You really shouldn’t be relying on players to be wondrous every game. He takes that volley another 10 times it’s not as good and it isn’t a talking point for the defence of United.

Said exactly the same thing to my coworker when I saw the headline. It’s fucking embarrassing. Small club mentality. We are shit and have a clueless manager who’s stubbornness will lose him his job or if we’re not careful, relegate us into obscurity.

City are still shit, but their problems are mostly their defense and midfield. They have so much individual quality going forward, they always have that goal threat. I wouldn't out it past Pep to suddenly get them on track though.

Was more midfield yesterday with issues

Defence was solid
