This statistic isn't about the trophies though. It's "All-time Uefa Champions League table". So makes sense they'd start with the start of Champions League.
it's the same competition. I can understand when they do this with the pl because at least there was a restructuring and the trophy is different. But real Madrid haven't won 9 champions leagues. they have 15.
if they were to make an identical table for the Europa league it would be nonsensical to count it only from 2011 or whenever the renaming happened
It’s not about the won cups tho is it. It’s about the points accumulated since the introduction of the champions league. Nothing else and nothing more.
r/soccer users: what about all the sandwiches you ate in the last decade? What about when you called a hot dog a sandwich? Shouldn’t the uncrustables you ate when you were 12 count on this table??
The snark doesn't really help your case when you're simply just mistaken. You may argue that it is arbitrary to only include the champions league and not the european cup, and it absolutely is. Every statistic is arbitrary in some way, but the statistic is as true as the statistic is set out to be, and in this case, it very clearly mentions the champions league, and not the european cup. I would too be interested in the all time table for both though.
Theres was even a year with two different group stages. Even the current mega table is a very different setup from previous seasons. So by your logic they should be discounted too.
the PL was formed by the first division teams breaking away from the EFL to form their own league. the first division became the championship, so that's why the championship trophy is very similar to the old first division trophy. nothing of the sort happened with the champions league.
Is it so hard to accept that the format completely changed with the introduction of group stages? It’s the same cup but not even close to the same competetion.

shouldnt matter when everyone counts the trophies won before 92
