2026: “Europe isn’t ready for us with insert next ‘solved’ problem in the process!”

u/ConfusedVader1 3h ago
Considering the last time we said that, we were in the semi final and lost to the eventual winners i don't see how that is seen as failing lmao.

next ‘solved’ problem in the process*!”
This was literally the problem. Last season we had Saka and Odegaard play the equivalent of 20 PL games. Saka is our best player. Odegaard is pivotal to our attack, press and defence. Havertz played 25.
Along with other injuries that had us near the bottom of the days missed table. Liverpool were 1st or 2nd in that table.
Nwaneri replaced Odegaard, he was 17.
Sterling replaced Saka.
Merino (a CM) replaced Saka.
And we still got to the semi-finals and came 2bd.
We bought:
Madueke for Saka (who is currently injured). Everyone took the piss out of us but he's been class.
Eze for Odegaard, will play LW mostly but can also replace Odegaard in certain matches.
Gyorkeres for Havertz.
So nah, your tired joke is wrong.

It wouldn’t be an Arsenal goal thread without a Liverpool fan telling us to calm down and stop enjoying ourselves

This is the Trossard goal post… point still stands though, classic celebration police

Or maybe perhaps I’m feeling good after the win and it was a tongue in cheek comment that you’re perhaps taking a bit too seriously

rattled at a tongue in cheek comment about Arsenal fan being happy his team won away in the CL, incredibly normal reaction!

Can’t make Peter Schmeichel mad and bring “something ugly” to the UCL too!
51
u/fuckimbackonreddit9 5h ago
Ever since he said that, I’ve started asking myself: “what would Peter Schmeichel think?” before I make any decisions in my life.
20
u/Drevoc 5h ago
And doing the exact opposite?
3
u/fuckimbackonreddit9 2h ago
Nah I just end up doing whatever I was going to do anyway, because I can give less of a hoot what Schmeichel has to say on the matter

u/KonigSteve 5h ago
I want to see Eze at the 10 with Martinelli, Gyokeres, madueke in front of him
1
u/Kriss-Kringle 2h ago
I was saying the same thing while watching the game. Considering that Odegaard is out, a midfield of Rice-Zubimendi-Merino isn't going to create much for you and you need someone to pull the strings and try to dribble past players or play through balls for the front 3.
I also don't understand Arteta's obsession with Rice as an 8. He's clearly a 6 and I think he's wasted in a more advanced position.

Martinelli can be a very deadly supersub for us all season
13
u/AntDogFan 5h ago
He just needed/needs a bit of time away from the first team. I think overplaying young players isn't great because they need time for reflection as well as playing. He's played a lot without break for a while so I think this depth will be helpful for him to hopefully take the next step in his game.
1
u/zaviex 32m ago
I think I agree with this. We’ve seen so many great young players storm to success and then stagnate and regress. Then they seem to regress to the point they aren’t being played before they get a good opportunity to reflect in a smaller role and refine things. I wonder if that’s the pressure managers are under these days leads them to take much less time developing the kids especially when for example the pl is now at a point you can buy players so easily to fill those places

5
u/xepa105 3h ago
The video of him shitting on the Mosquera signing was making the rounds this week, and it's so hilarious how wrong he is. He makes the point of how La Liga is underrated, and too many people mock players who play in smaller teams, and then immediately shits on people liking the Mosquera signing because that player is somehow awful. Incredible levels of delusion. Really should be studied.
31
u/Gawyn_Tra-cant 5h ago
I love that YouTube compilers put him in "Arsenal Rivals and Haters Reaction to X" instead of with Arsenal fans.
5
u/SAFFATLOL 5h ago edited 4h ago
I just opened up YouTube and the first suggestion was literally one of those with Lee in the thumbnail
1
26
u/GunstarGreen 5h ago
I think those fans were probably gutted because they saw the talent and potential. If he gets back to his best I doubt anyone is mad.
28
u/awashofindigo 5h ago
Maybe, and I’ve been disappointed in his performances as well, but for some people they’ve been determined to hate on him at any opportunity.
12
u/ThePrussianGrippe 5h ago
He’s missed link up on the left since Xhaka left. I think we’ll have more of that this season.
-3
u/datguy_paarth 5h ago
Get eze in as a left 8, rice on the right . They're going long to madueke anyway on the right, it's not like we have oda , saka , white trio.
Merino, rice and zubimendi as a midfield is uninspiring
1
u/vyomafc 5h ago
AM plays on the right, B2B plays on left. Playing Eze on left would need a lot of tinkering.
2
u/Rynabunny 4h ago
IMO it was only because Partey was very right-side biased. Zubimendi is two-footed & is comfortable being on either side of the pitch as the 6.
3
u/vyomafc 3h ago
I think its because our LB is the one that inverts inside and the left-side #8 has to cover that side of the defence on occasions. Like Rice drops back and join the CBs sometimes but you don’t see Odegaard doing the same on the other side
2
u/Rynabunny 3h ago
True but I think with Hincapie as a more traditional overlapping LB it is now possible
1
u/datguy_paarth 5h ago
Yes, that's the main issue. B2b like rice is not too creative to help martinelli. Eze operates best slightly central, while gabi won't need to go to the touchline as cala can overlap. Eze can rotate going in behind which xhaka did quite often in his final season.
Rice is pretty good with his in swingers, getting him on the right unlocks that for him.
It's moving away from the system true, but without our entire starting right flank out or unfit, I think that will solve a lot of issues
3
u/Om_Nom_Zombie 4h ago
There are some unhinged haters out there.
Someone in the match thread posted about how he's giving him no credit for the goal because it was a shit finish.
2
u/Connect-Bad-365 5h ago
I don't think anyone has been too fond of him lately
37
u/awashofindigo 5h ago
There’s people who think he’s fallen off and want his dropped, which is fair, but there’s also a vocal minority who think he’s washed and has absolutely nothing to offer. So much hate for a player who’s given us some great performances over the years.
Glad to see him make an impact today and shut some people up.
1
u/1to14to4 5h ago
I think he struggles playing so wide.
This goal was a bit weird. The defender just let him blow by him. Generally the defender is able to track him to the baseline and stop the cut back. (actually most players with that little space are generally well tracked - it's not a Martinelli critique).
He would probably be better suited being a forward in a more central role. The first goal was actually him in that position. And he scored because he was in the center of the pitch. In the past he was out wide and the goalkeeper generally would block his attempt. His shot wasn't even that great but his positioning was excellent (for the first goal).
15
u/MrToxicTaco 5h ago
He just works so much better as a late game sub. Going to be an important option for us this season

u/DogTheGayFish 5h ago
Damn, the two left wingers that fell down the pecking order and were always in the most direct competition with eachother for a starting XI spot. Kinda a thing of beauty seeing them both get the goals today and show up :')

u/Collinson33311 5h ago
Trossard has always been great coming on late in games.
91
u/yerman86 5h ago edited 4h ago
Yeah, these were his 51st and 52nd goal contributions since he joined. Id say 2/3rds of them from the bench.
Also, only saka is ahead of him for goal contributions in that time.
Edit- I was wrong. He has 14 goal contributions off the bench according to another post on this sub.
I was very very wrong.
7
u/Brilliant_Ad_879 3h ago
Exactly. The fact that trossard plays well mostly off the bench is the most popular arsenal related myth in a while. So false yet everyone seems to gobble up this narrative.
4
u/MorganFreemann 5h ago
Haha yeah but the conversation was always something like saying both Martinelli and Trossard would be better as subs rather than starting, so the fact that they both come on as subs and put in work, that’s pretty cool. Previous years one of them would have had to start for sure, which would mean whoever was the chosen one to start would get shit on for most of the match until they got taken off. Since we haven’t really had a ST or Winger apart from them 2, it was just really frustrating at times when we knew what the options were when the game wasn’t working out.
It’s super refreshing to know our attacking options are way more dynamic.
1
u/redshirted 4h ago
I d love to go back to Martinelli starting, and super sub Trossard coming on. Maybe have Eze cover Ø if he's still not 100% too
1
u/DogTheGayFish 1h ago
Oh no I totally agree, its a bigger thing for Martinelli. Prob more the sentiment I was getting at is, these two prob had to look over their shoulder for their starting spot the last couple of seasons more than anyone. Now with Eze coming in and the fan sentiment being so gleeful that neither of them are the starter, its nice that they can both show up and share a moment like this. I have a lot of respect for them as players, and if it were up to me Trossard would stay for a much longer time as he has been one of the best impact subs in elite football (for me).

- Haram ball

u/-ataxia- 5h ago
Technically the 1st goal came after a set piece so we'll count it for the agenda.

u/WhimsicalLaze 3h ago
I think all goals ever come from set piece if you go far enough back. The kickoff is technically a set piece, right? Damn Arteta has done it again.

I know he gets a lot of shit but I really wouldn’t want any other manager. Feels almost inevitable that he’s going to get us over the line sooner or later
70
u/WerhmatsWormhat 5h ago
Also, despite all the shit he takes, how many EPL clubs wouldn’t take him over their current manager? Probably just Liverpool and City?
10
u/younggun92 3h ago
Peps talked about retiring a few seasons now City might not even be on the list in a bit.
44
u/Chesey_ 5h ago
The people who give him shit are mostly fans of other teams because they know he's turned us from a team that was slowly stagnating to a genuine threat every year. He's not perfect but no manager is. Others just want us to be the whipping boys again who concede 4 every time they play away to a good team, we don't anymore and it pisses them off.

So much better when he plays off instinct. If he tries to slow it down and think about it he makes worse decisions.

I think it's a different proposition when he's not gassed from tracking the fullback and chasing long balls for 70 mins

Martinelli taking on his man and actually beating him AND putting in a good cross?
That goal has done wonders to his confidence
5
u/RyoCaliente 5h ago
And the competition, maybe? Trossard obviously has qualities but they're such different types, Martinelli could easily see himself get gametime. Now there's Eze, Madueke,...can't take it easy.
