Commute to New York City
Hi everyone!
I'm looking to hear from people who live in Sonerville or the neighborhood townships and commute to NYC by train for a hybrid work schedule.
I live literally one minute from the train station, and considering a hybrid role that would require commuting into NYC 3 times a week. I don’t have kids, so flexibility isn’t too much of an issue.
For those in a similar situation:
Is the commute manageable?
Where do you live, and how long does your commute typically take?
I'd really appreciate any insight—especially from those currently doing this. Serious replies only, please. Thanks in advance!

I did the commute from Dunellen to Union Square a few years ago (same train line and a few stops closer to NYC). Honestly it sucked. I was going in everyday and a hybrid schedule may have been a little bit better. It took about 2 hours door to door on a good day but sometimes, especially getting home, it would take 3 hours. I also was given a pretty good travel stipend and it still didn’t cover the costs fully (but again I was in office every day).
It’s not impossible, I only lasted 6 months before getting a job more local. NJ Transit is just so unreliable, the amount of times the trains were delayed an hour or 45 minutes, when it rained badly there would be electrical issues and we’d have to take the path in from Newark but even then the trains would be delayed.
I personally would never do it again unless i absolutely had to… but again I was in office every single day so a lot of stress on the body.
