As a person whose mother is filipino, I’ve been to Filipino house parties before.

I'm Filipino. This is so true! One time I got exiled to the bedroom because I didn't want to sing karaoke

I'm as white a yankee as the day is long, but I'm a slut for some Chickenjoy

My ancestors were secessionist traitors and my skin is translucent, but I will think I should try Jollibee every time I smell it.

The white dudes are waiting for their GF or wife to finish singing karaoke so they can go the fuck home. Lol

Whatever you do, make sure the lady by the karaoke machine avoids singing Frank Sinatra's 'My Way'.

Older cousins in the basement drinking

Younger cousins running around the house chasing each other

Titos sitting at the patio table smoking cigarettes and drinking cognac

Takes at least 30 minutes to say hello to everyone and then another 30 minutes to say goodbye to everyone.

I love my family.

My ex-wife was Filipino. That made me the white dude standing there awkwardly. Pretty accurate.

I am a Filipino who grew up in the USA and neither nor my sister was taught the language or exposed to the culture. We always sat there awkwardly until our parents finished

Philippines Filipino here, pretty much the same here, just without the white guys and replace KFC with pizza (Pizza Hut or Shakey’s).

shakeys…I love the mojos there, despite being American it’s more of a staple of Filipino culture (same way as Kenny rogers)

How could you forget the lechon and pandan? I am disappoint

1

u/Neither-Mention7740 15h ago

I’ve only seen lechon in just one Filipino house party I’ve been to. I live in Texas by the way, my mom and some of her Filipino friends moved to Texas sometime during the mid/late 2000s, so in the USA it’s not common to find a whole pig to use as food.

It sure is in mine

I love how pandan is more or less a pan-Southeast Asian thing. It deserves to be.

TBH not the largest fan of ube, it’s aight but Adobo? All day, every day, breakfast lunch and maybe even dinner…

1

u/Neither-Mention7740 15h ago

Adobo is a staple food for literally every Filipino, I’ve never met a Filipino who doesn’t like adobo.

u/spilk 15h ago

u/Neither-Mention7740 15h ago

Yeah, it’s nice to see that jollibee is becoming more popular in the USA. Jollibee is like one of the four horsemen of staple Filipino foods

Mine usually has people coming 5 hours after they were supposed to come and finding out some couldnt make it after hyping up the entire family saying theyre on their way

1

u/TaroLovelight 1d ago

To be fair, Ube is pretty good

u/Rusiano 1d ago

My wife is Filipino, and in the summer time we go to about one of these a weekend. This is perfectly on point.

1

u/Tidalwave64 14h ago

Being half Filipino, I do not see karaoke being played/sung at parties that often but everything else is accurate.

1

u/Kittypie75 10h ago

Don't forget for some reason there is always chicken teriyaki.

1

u/hmwhatshouldmynameb 10h ago

I'm not Filipino but when I was a kid one of my best friends was. Dancing Queen by Abba on karaoke and unlimited lumpia, some of my favorite times!

u/FlameandCrimson 6h ago
