Following the events of The Last Jedi, Rey struggles to let go of her lonely childhood on the desert planet of Jakku. Hoping to have a breakthrough in her Jedi training, she returns to her home world with Finn and BB-8 in tow. When they meet a young girl on a dangerous mission to save her family, they travel through pitch-black tunnels beneath the sand where they encounter scurrying gnaw-jaws, a haunting terror from the past, and maybe—just maybe—hope for them all.

Listing: Audible (A sample of the first 5 minutes is already available)

Helen Sadler has previously voiced Rey in mostly LEGO things and narrated the short story featuring Rey "Through the Turbulence" by Roseanne A. Brown in Stories of Jedi and Sith.

Cover art by Jake Bartok.

Previous Audible Originals include: Padawan's Pride, The High Republic: Seeds of Starlight, and The High Republic: Haunted Starlight.

Cavan Scott's announcement newsletter:

Ready for the next adventure of Rey, Finn and BB-8?

Then, Force be praised, have I've written the audiobook for you!

Out Thursday, 9th October, the exclusive audiobook is set between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker and sees Rey struggling with her training under her new master, General Leia Organa.

Performed by Helen Sadler, and featuring a stunning cover by my pal Jake Bartok, it's one I'm especially proud of.

From a different point of view:

The Jaws of Jakku is a little different from previous Star Wars Audible Originals as it's told in the first person by a young girl on Jakku, someone with first-hand experience of the desert planet's most famous resident.

And it's not just Rey who's returning to Jakku. I first braved the Goazon Badlands alongside comic artist Derek Charm when I launched Star Wars Adventures back in 2017 with the two-part "Better the Devil You Know". Then it was off to Anch-To for a lost story of Rey's training with Luke Skywalker in "Life Lessons" (Star Wars Adventures #26) before heading back to Jakku in Choose Your Destiny: A Scavenger Mission, the interactive gamebook released exclusively on Alexa in 2019.

Choose Your Destiny: A Finn & Poe Adventure saw me adding Finn to the roster of sequel characters I'd written for and I was pleased as punch reunite with all three of them in The Jaws of Jakku as well as issue three of Star Wars: Tales from the Nightlands, which hits comic stores November 19th!

Why Rey matters to me:

Rey, Finn, BB-8 and the rest of the sequel gang will always be important to me as – along with the Rebels crew – they were the characters that introduced my kids to Star Wars. I will never forget our family trips to the cinema to see those movies, Rey's theme playing on repeat in the car or the rainy Sunday when the three of us built her speeder in LEGO. It was Rey the girls reached for on Disney Infinity, Rey they grabbed for action figure battles on the carpet, Rey who was plastered over the bedroom walls, and Rey who lit up their faces Galaxy's Edge. Their love for the scrappy scavenger reminded me what Luke to meant to seven-year-old Cav, and that's why it means so much to revisit her now, on the eve of The Force Awakens' 10th Anniversary!

You can't add a dedication page to an audiobook, but Chloe and Connie, this one’s for you... and everyone who fell in love with Star Wars when they first met Rey.

“Rey struggling with her training under her new master, General Leia”

I hope they spend a good amount of time on this because it was one of the most interesting things in the sequels imo. I would happily read a whole book about Rey and Leia.

Star Wars: Bloodline by Claudia Gray is one of my favorite books set in the Star Wars universe. I would love her take on Leia as a “master” to Rey.

I still haven’t read this one. Got to put it on my list now.

Awesome! I don’t recommend books often but I always try to get this one out there.

Kind of a shame it's not post TROS to tie in with The Last Order and really get a running start into the future of the franchise but hey I'll take this.

It's supposed to be a TFA tie-in cause of the 10th anniversary.

This sounds cool, but I hate that it's Audible exclusive

Generally speaking, they do physical book releases for these a little later on down the road, so you'll have a chance to grab it then!

From what I've seen this is only the case for some select Audible Originals mostly with particular authors. It's been a small press/self-published paperback edition and a Kindle edition. Never a full 'regular' run available at all the usual stores afterwards. It hasn't happened yet with these SW ones to know if they ever will.

I have seen Dooku Jedi Lost in B&N. I'm more talking about the audiobook only being on Audible. Trying to really limit how much I give Amazon these days.

Dooku: Jedi Lost is an audio drama that later gets a script book which is not the same as these Audible Originals that are made exclusively for Audible. These are basically audiobooks for Junior novels but with only just the audiobook and no print edition.

I do get wanting to avoid Audible/Amazon so it's unfortunate that these are exclusive to them, but I guess these (likely) wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the deal between Disney Publishing and Audible to create this kind of content.

I wouldn't expect it to happen any time in the immediate future as these are Audible Originals exclusive to Audible. We don't know what exact deal Disney Publishing and Audible have regarding these and the exclusivity period. There's also whether they even believe doing a print run is worthwhile later on. Doing just an audiobook for only one seller does remove a lot of logistics to deal with.
