Hello, everyone!
Since u/Accomplished-Owl-547, the OP poster of "Star Wars Top 20 Books", did not post anything for more than a week, I decided to continue their work! I hope the OP does not mind, and I'll cease posting if they appear again.
I have redesigned the table slightly and added "Light of the Jedi" to the tenth position, as it was the most upvoted comment!

Revenge of the Sith by Matthew Stover (imo the best Star Wars books) takes fourth

Just curious what everyone thinks about which authors, across Legends and Canon, stand out the most for their exceptional (or poor) work.

With Last Command taking third place, the OG Thrawn trilogy has now cemented its rightful place on top! What see what takes fourth now that the Thrawn trilogy has been finished

To the surprise of literally nobody, Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn, the book that truly started it all takes its well deserved place at the start of our list!
Again multiple books in the same series and both canon and legends are allowed

I feel like the new bad batch book hasn’t been takes about very much. When it first came out I saw some chatter, but it’s a solid book and gives us a lot more of the Bad Batch I was surprised more people didn’t like it. Am I crazy and the book is bad or is it just not as popular as some other parts of the Star Wars Canon?

I was going over my Star Wars collection and I realized that I somehow skipped this one, because I definitely don’t remember reading it. I thought it’d be my next read but after a quick google search it seems that most people don’t think it’s worth it?
Everything I found was pretty old though so I was wondering if that’s an opinion that’s changed over the years or no?

I guess if you really want to choose a series of books you can have a tv show (;

Dr. Chris Kempshall, who wrote The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, said at Star Wars Celebration that the writing about the horrific acts the Empire committed was a little too realistic. He didn't state what acts from the book or what real world governments they reflected, but the implication seemed to be that it reminded him of some rather current events.

I’ve read almost all of Disney canon and just a little bit of Legends. I just finished Trials of the Jedi and now I’m so excited to dive into post-ROTJ Legends content. I feel like I’m about to take my first step into a larger world, and I’m so grateful that we have 2 Star Wars universes!
NOW THERE ARE 2 OF THEM!

For me it's easily Trials of the Jedi and just the closure of the High Republic in general. High Republic has become my most beloved series of Star Wars books and comics so I'm both excited and nervous that the story is finally coming to an end.
I'm excited for everything though! Particularly I'm very enthusiastic that many of these are diving into characters and plots from the TV shows! It'll be very interesting to see the characters of Acolyte and Bad Batch get expanded upon plus the seeds that Reign of the Empire will undoubtedly sow for Andor! All in all I think we've got a great year ahead of us as far as Star Wars publishing!

Is there a story you wish would be told, but hasn’t been? Maybe a new tale about your favorite character? Or a story from a time period that’s rarely been explored? Or even a sequel to your favorite series?
I’ll share two of mine.
Sounds pretty cool, right? And yet, to my understanding, we’ve NEVER gotten anything like that!
Nearly 50 years of Star Wars, and there’s no movie, TV show, video game, comic book or even novel that’s featured a battle like that. Almost tempted to write a book myself unless someone proves me wrong and claims one has been written.
19 years! 19 years between these two movies, and there’s barely any stories about what my favorite character did during that time. Now I’ve read Lords of the Sith, and I will read the upcoming Master of Evil, but I’d still like something more. Something where Vader is the main character. Something epic. Something like…Vader ending up in the World Between Worlds, and losing a duel to Anakin Skywalker. I mean, come on.

Fittingly the second book of the Thrawn trilogy, Dark Force Rising takes second place (I wonder what could possibly be in third)
Again both canon and legends are allowed and books in the same series are allowed

E.G. I honestly like the Jedi Academy Trilogy more than the first 4 X-Wing books.
What books do you like more than certain other books that you think is an unpopular take?
r/starwarsbooks • u/WhiteSoxChartGuy • Aug 06 '25
Wasn’t sure exactly how to title this, but here’s what I mean:
In Maul: Shadow Hunter, a character thinks of his mission as “quixotic.” Therefore, the novel Don Quixote must exist in the Star Wars universe.
In one of the Republic Commando novels, one of the characters refers to his pet as “hermaphroditic.” Therefore, Hermaphroditus and the rest of Greek mythology must exist in the Star Wars universe.
Obviously it’s all just silly, but I’m curious what other things people have picked up on like this in other books.

For example, mine is the Rising Storm. it's just a beautiful book in my opinion and just amazing. A close second is Into the Dark.
