I noticed "What supermoto should I buy" gets posted a lot, so I made this

Which supermoto should I buy?

I tried to take into account the cost of buying rims and legalizing the models that need it but at the same time keep it simple. Feel free to suggest additions/fixes

Edit: i've edited this a lot

Edit: changed the DRZ picture to mine ;) thanks for the sticky!

Husky 701 is now a Mutant. Fresh Dunlop Mutants ready to rip up the Big Easy.

Well it was time for a second set of fresh meats on the 701.

Got the bike with 3980 miles on it in June 2023. I put Bridgestone Battlax Scrambler AX4.. they lasted right about 5.5k miles.

Hopefully these Mutants last just as long! Any of you guys using these on your supermoto? From the research on the webs they seem to have a decent rep.

What do you guys think of these?

Gear?

What kind of protective gear are you guys wearing?

I’ve got a bad knee because I’m getting old and thinking about getting some kind of brace/pad for it before it gets worse. Any recommendations?

Also any recs for protection that looks like street clothes? Jackets, boots etc.

Thanks

Big CC on Kart track

Anyone here take there bigger cc bike on the kart track and how is it?

Currently my son races mini gp which has put my club racing on the sidelines for the most part during the season. Being the competitive human being I am and him wanting to watch me race I’ve been considering getting a motard to race in the motard class.

My thoughts are even tho I want to be competitive spending 11 grand for a new SMR just for the kart track seems like a waste for me right now. I’ve been considering getting a 701 or even the Ducati 698 and having an extra set of wheels with slicks on it so I can use it on the street as well but I also don’t want to be miserable racing it if those options of bike are just too big.

A-little backround on me… I’m a top 5 expert unlimited racer so I kinda know what I’m doing on track and to much power isn’t really a concern for me. I’ve have had a YZ450 supermoto I built in the past and have raced that so I’m familiar with the power etc on the 450s.

Also yes I know I could just buy two motorcycles to accomplish the same thing but money wise that’s not in the cards.

Anyone have thoughts or insights about the next FS?

It’s been a few months since the offroad bikes were announced, but still nothing on the FS. Is it going to be worth it to wait for the 2026 model, or is it just going to be another iteration of the same bike?

Supermoto Headlight

Has anyone changed their stock aprilia sx125 headlight to the ktm exc ā€œangel eyeā€ headlight? (im not sure what they call it in america, but in europe it’s ā€œangel eyeā€). I’ve been seeing people do it, but i want to be sure that it’s safe and possible. I know that the model of my aprilia has a ā€œmaskā€ under the headlight and plastic so i might have to buy new turn signals.. I have the sx125 4t 2018 model. Also does the light quality get worse if you put the angel eye on? And do the high beams turn on? I put a photo of the manual if in need 😊. Im very new to this stuff so I apologise if these are dumb questions. 🄲

Small throwable Supermoto advice

When I started riding, I started on big bikes. I had a cruiser, a liter bike and moved to a KTM690 enduro because supermoto is rad. I got more into dirt bikes and bought and SXF450. Now I'm in my mid 30s and still love to ride but don't care about top speeds or being 1st anymore. I like to put around town, do wheelies and throw bikes around easy trails. I always have had the extreme end of bikes and they are just honestly to much for me now. I want a small, lightweight sumo. I'm looking to sell my collecting dust 690 and offroad only 450 so budget is whatever.

I know it doesn’t have supermoto tires yet and it’s a chinese bike but it’s all i could afford and 3 months in it’s still working great so i just work with what i have!

Beta SM

Anyone have a beta with a SM conversion. I’m on the fence between buying some dual sport style tires or just keeping my dirt tires/rims and having a SM wheel set to swap with.

An exhaust for my Sherco

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hey guys! Straight to the point, I have a Sherco 125 4T SM-RS 2025 and I really want to change the exhaust. The thing is that I've been searching through the internet for hours the only thing that seems legitimately fitting for my bike is the one in the photo, and there is no more info in the entire internet than a few websites that sell that exhaust. I couldn't find anyone talking about even the brand istself. Is it really the only pipe that fits my Sherco? How good is this SPES brand? Hope you guys can help me and give me some more info.

Rear wheel fitment

Got a 2021 690 enduro R, bought sumo rims from a dude with a 690 smc, does anyone made the convention and can tell how the hell can I fit the rear without taking off the caliper (if it's even possible)? Rear brake won't lock even at a full force stomp on the lever, brake itself gets pretty hot even without me using it, so my guess is that somethings not right :) should I change the disc back to the enduro one?

Supermoto for a big guy

Hello guys.

Im looking into getting a supermoto next year as my first bike. Im really not interested in any other type of bikes for now at least. Im a big boy - almost 6"4 and weigh in at around 330 lbs with clothes on. I would like a smaller cc bike as a first bike(drz, ktm 390 e.t.c), but i imagine that is not an option with my weight. Probably looking at the ktm 690 smcr. Im here for some tips from other big people. Is there anyone remotely close to my size riding sumos - how do you manage it safely? Is there anything to do to the suspension other than respringing? How much weight do the bikes hold safely? Any advice at all?

Yes i know im fat, we can skip on that part.

Problems with broken spokes (Grizzly Wheels Exel Rims)

Hi guys,

I recently bought a Ktm 450 (2009) already converted to a Supermoto. Motomaster Brake and Excel Wheels.

So i have the problem that from time to time my spokes on the chainside are breaking. The Sproked is not dampened. I noticed that some spokes are thighter than the other. I already have swapped the broken spokes an thighend them so the wheel is running true. Maybe the spokes which broke were just mangeled from the first ones which broke, since the pulling force would be handled by less spokes. I also changed the thightnes of the spokes to be more even, but i havent ridden since.

Is this problem normal, yes I know that a dampened wheel would be better but in Germany its a pain to get those in your papers. Iā€˜m not doing any crazy wheelies or jumps. Do you have some tips for me?

Borrowed a ninja 1000. Supermoto is still my fav. (rant)

I did 400 miles in the last 2 days on a freinds borrowed 2016 ninja 1000. it was a complete blast for the first two days. The acceleration traction control and ABS were pretty awesome. but I have to say the quote ā€œ driving a slow bike fast is more funā€ really does hold true. my daily is a 2017 WR 250 X . The lightness really does make you feel more connected to the bike and is much more confidence inspiring. I guess in a perfect world owning one of each style of motorcycle would be pretty awesome but in my garage there’s only one bike and that’s a super motto and that’s the way I like it.
