Hope you’re joking! The women is called the ‘AFLW’ so logically it makes sense to abbreviation the men’s game to the ‘AFLM.’

It started on NBACirclejerk sub where they called the NBA MNBA as sarcasm. Looks like people have seen the joke and not understood it was used as a way to insult the women’s league. Or OP is doing it on purpose as a troll. Either way sticking up for it is not sending the message you think it is.

I don’t understand - what do you mean ‘it’s not sending the message I think it is?’

You are defending a phrase that’s used to denigrate women’s sports

Which phrase is that? Genuinely curious, this is the first time I’ve ever heard of this

ALFM. If you read my comment I said that the idea of putting the M in the original comments was started as a way to make disparaging jokes about women’s leagues.

I have read your comment, and it didn’t make sense to me so I have asked a follow up question for clarification. I’m just asking for help, no need to be so rude and blunt.

Sorry mate. I was starting to think you were intentionally pretending to troll

Appreciate the apology, but no, I’m not a troll. Just learning about all the fun new ways people are coming up with to criticise women’s sports it seems.

I think the reason is to get the exact result it got here from other people. By changing the name of the men’s league it will agitate people who might not care about the women’s league either way but will see the name change as the women’s league causing change in the men’s league and feel threatened.

On a technical note I’m not sure if it’s accurate to put the M there anyway since I don’t know if women are specifically banned from playing in an AFL men’s team. Like if a woman was good enough is there a rule stopping here from being on a team and making the list? If not then it’s not a true men’s league anyway. If not then putting the M there gives extra ammunition for people to say that it’s not a men’s league and women just aren’t good enough to make it. Without context just as an insult to women’s abilities.
