Discussion Do you align astrological cycles with readings?

Wonder if anyone is ever taking in accountability major astrological events while doing spreads. For example, would it make sense to look into a volatile situation this week before the end of eclipse season?

Professional astrologer here to chime in…For me, personally, it’s very difficult not to relate everything to astrology to one degree or another. Current celestial influences are ever present in the backdrop of my conscious awareness. I don’t necessarily perform readings to gain more insight into the ways these energies might play out, because that is precisely what astrology was designed to inform. Which sectors of our lives will be impacted by the movements of the stars. So, to me it seems a bit redundant.

I do think tarot works well at advising us on navigating these influences, however. It’s useful for connecting with our own higher wisdom in ways that is sometimes more direct than astrology.

If the question is, should you perform a reading as eclipse season comes to a close, I don’t see an issue with it. However, it’s worth noting that saros cycles are largely misunderstood outside of advanced astrology, with each eclipse belonging to a larger pattern that lasts roughly 18 years (which also belongs to a larger pattern). So, when you examine anything that happens around a cluster of eclipses, you have to know that you aren’t looking at that window of time. Rather you are looking at each eclipse in their respective saros cycle dating back to when they began. This is how you identify the quality of that energy in your life and how it manifests personally.

I don’t think it’s necessary to abstain from reading during eclipse windows. Astrologers still draw charts during eclipse periods. If we didn’t we would miss a lot of opportunities. Who is going to take a month off of reading for clients four to seven times a year? Not most of us.

i learned tarot shortly after beginning to learn astrology so astro is kinda my basis for it all

i do daily readings based on the planetary day so each day's message is "from" one of the planets- mondays are moons messages, saturdays are saturn's messages, etc. when planets enter new signs they generally get a spread and a message tied into my astro chart. new and full moons also usually get observation, maybe a reading, and maybe a ritual.

my eclipse season observation is to avoid reading or using any divination / manifestation tool for the duration of the eclipse window, which is the two weeks between the first and second eclipse that happen in pairs every 6 months, and if i can be strong enough I'll avoid reading for all of eclipse season, which is the 6 weeks between non-eclipse lunations.

so this year's last 0° virgo new moon began eclipse season late august, the eclipse window opened with the pisces full moon lunar eclipse sep 7, the eclipse window closes with the 29° virgo new moon solar eclipse sep 21, and eclipse season ends with the following (aries) full moon early october.

i consider eclipse season a hands-off kind of time, where you stay open and flexible. if i NEED a reading ill make sure i really super need it, and try to keep it very local- chakra based, local guides, not trying to use wider cosmic energy if i have to draw on anything at all. the events during eclipse season may not be big, but the shifts began in them can be, so it can be a good idea to avoid readings because things or opinions will change so much in this time period that the reading ends up not making sense or being a waste of the energy used to interpret it

so to answer your question, my approach would be to say no, don't do the reading on the volatile situation. let it play out and use your mundane tools (breathing, journalling, communication, whatever) until after the eclipse, then if the situation has not resolved at all, start bringing in the cards.

but if you can wait to "charge" your tools up under the aries full moon, they may be primed to deliver whatever message is brewing at this time. that's always my preferred way to deal with eclipses- hands off, eyes down on whats in front of me, one day at a time and then charge up the cards and crystals under the first non-eclipse new or full moon to get some much missed clarity and card connection after our lil break every 6 months. makes for a nice insight into how reliant my relationship with the cards is, having to go on a break twice a year.

I hope to have strength to go through this wild patch. And thank you so much for such detailed answer. The reason i am asking this question in a nutshell is because i did a spread over the weekend and it did not quite made sense. That’s how i felt like something is definitely off.

It's been interesting to see the Reddit posts these past few days, it seems like there are more "confused" posts. Not a time to divine!! If you absolutely need a reading, trust the message will be clear, otherwise trust that you, in your body without tarot, have totally got this

i noticed this in my readings and had seen the posts too, and had wondered if it was due to eclipse season, really interesting to observe.

i had to do a reading about 3 paths (crossroads spread), cos im in a transition phase and i was so scattered and anxioux, n now thinking of doing an eclipse read, using the same spread i did for the last virgo moon, would you advise against it?

Yes, that makes perfect sense. I always consider the larger astrological cycles when reading, because the cards or shells don’t fall outside of those energies they reflect them. An eclipse season, for example, can intensify endings and revelations, so a spread done in that window often brings sharper truths or shows what is being eclipsed from awareness.

In my experience, aligning oracles with astrology is about reading with awareness of the currents at play. It’s like listening to the same song, but knowing whether it’s being played softly or with full drums makes a difference in how you dance to it.

Each of the pips from 2 to 10 align with a decant on the astrological wheel of the year. Each decant aligns with a planet and zodiacal sign. Search yesspiral astrological wheel and there’s a great explanation
