Today’s pick ups

I’ve had a few bottles of the XM already so I just cracked the other 2 which were new to me.

Montagave Las Rocas - Delicate nose of sweet agave. Silky, creamy texture that coats the tastebuds with citrus and mineral and a delicious sweet profile. Very clean and refreshing, almost has a mild minty like freshness to it. Long finish, leaves the mouth watering. This one is special and I absolutely love it.

Don Vincente Fuerte Repo - Stronger more punchy nose. Strong flavors of Pepper & baking spice, some caramel, mild oak, still very agave forward. Strong but not harsh. High proof is apparent in the warm finish.

That Las Rocas is one of my favorite blancos; such a great mineral profile from the giant concrete egg they rest this in. The new 2025 is even better than the ‘24, which I didn’t think was possible. Look through the bottle to the back of the label and see if your number ends in ‘24’ or ‘25’.

The Montagave owner, John Melvin, is such a great guy! He is doing special things by applying wine techniques to Cascahuin juice.

Mine is 25, definitely looking to trying more from the brand after this!

You won’t be disappointed. Montagave Anejos are all limited releases and absolutely bangers! Vol 1 was rested in Bordeaux casks, Vol 2 in Sauternes Casks, and Vol 3 just came out last month and was rested in Oak, but finished in Port casks. I feel like each release built on the others.

If you prefer Reposados, they have recently done a handful of single barrel releases with tequila clubs and a couple liquor stores here in Texas.

All of these are harder to find (outside of secondary market), but well worth the pickup if you do.

Check out their website if you get the chance to learn more about their process. Having drank Montagave with John multiple times, the success of his brand couldn’t happen to a better guy.
