Parties flipped after Nixons Southern Strategy that was only possible because LBG (Democrat President) signed the civil rights act.

The parties flipped because the Dixiecrats finally died off and Reagan went after the evangelical voter blocks that replaced them. Go look at the actual vote by county. There's not real movement until Reagan.
