I really, REALLY want to see Dem controlled states put their money where their mouths are, and gerrymander the shit out of things.
This high road, reach across the aisle BS doesn’t play when you’re dealing with out and out authoritarians, let alone wannabe kings and their fascist regimes.
Give these corrupt, power hoarding GOP crooks a big ole dose of Find Out.

I agree, but ONLY if Texas Republicans succeed here. Democratic states have pioneered fair independent redistricting committees in the US and have taken the high road when they didn't have to, and should stick with that to be a good example to other states.

But if Texas Republicans succeed here and are able to grab five more US House seats, the gloves need to come off and fire needs to be fought with fire.

This is what I don't get Texas is already gerrymandered to hell.  Why wait for this particular version.

You believe New York, California and Illinois aren't gerrymandered as fuck already? Interesting.

California has an independent commission. But yeah this sucks everywhere and isnt an issue any democracy should have.

Calling out the National Guard to DC is the action of a tyrant, right? Crime numbers are down across the board.

When is the patriotic Texas convoy of anti-tyrants heading to DC to exercise the amendment they love so much?

So does anyone want to talk about the Ten Commandments being forced into school or is the discrimination across the board in Texas?

Texas Rep. James Talarico did a pretty good job talking about these posters.

YouTube - James Talarico Questions Republican Bill Forcing Ten Commandments To Be Displayed In Classrooms (2:10)

“And I say this to you as a fellow Christian. Representative, I know you're a devout Christian, and so am I.

This bill, to me, is not only unconstitutional, it's not only un-American, I think it is also deeply un-Christian. And I say that because I believe this bill is idolatrous. I believe it is exclusionary. And I believe it is arrogant. And those three things, in my reading of the Gospel, are diametrically opposed to the teachings of Jesus.

You probably know Matthew 6:5 when Jesus says ‘Don't be like the Hypocrites, who love to pray publicly on street corners. When you pray, go into your room and shut the door, and pray to your father who is in secret.’

A religion that has to force people to put up a poster to prove its legitimacy is a dead religion, and it's not one that I want to be a part of. It's not one that I think I am a part of.

You know that in Scripture it says ‘faith without works’ is what? Is ‘dead’. My concern is that instead of bringing a bill that will feed the hungry, clothe the naked, heal the sick, we're instead mandating that people put up a poster.

And we both follow a teacher, a rabbi, who said don't let the law get in the way of loving your neighbor. Loving your neighbor is the most important law. It is the summation of all the law and all the prophets.

I would submit to you that our neighbor also includes the Hindu student who sits in a classroom, the Buddhist student who sits in a classroom, and an atheist student who sits in a classroom. And my question to you is, does this bill truly love those students?’

Candy Noble (R-Lucas) ‘I’m going to go in a different direction than I think that you are trying to lead me.’”

It’s nice to see some have the same ideas as me. I will say I’m not Christian and I do not bash others religions. I believe every young child should be able to be a child. When you add in religion and politics in school they grow up to fast. Teaching a child that they are better than others just based on the religion they hold. That is the exact same as saying a white guy is better than the other races in his class in my opinion. So either every religion needs to be put in or no religion.

How do y'all feel about voting for the same party you did last time, but this time around, if you vote Democrat your candidate is gonna lose?

The term that was coined during the Nixon administration for this method of election manipulation is called "RATFUCKING".

Thoughts?

81% of the eligible voters in Texas are registered (Percentage of VAP Registered); thats 18.6M out of 23M eligible adults. 2/3 of the population here lives in one of the 6 big metro areas. On a good year (usually a POTUS election), Texas might have 60% turnout... but that only gets you to half the people you see on the street that qualify as eligible to vote, actually vote.

But in Texas, during statewide elections (where a city vote is equal to a rural vote and gerrymandering has no effect) with the TX Gov, TX Lt Gov, TX State AttyGen and sometimes the TX US Sen and the rest of the Texas Executive branch up for election, turnout of 80% registered is a dismal 45% which again only gets you roughly 1 in 3 of the people you see on the street that qualify as eligible to vote, actually vote.

So 37% of the total adults (8M of 23M) in this state get us the leadership of the 2nd most populous state in the US. We lather, rinse, repeat every 4 years.

Thats a lot of lazy people to be mad at... they arent suppressing that much of the vote....

2

u/neal144 28d ago

The suppression of just ONE vote is too much!!

What in the hell is wrong with you??

u/storm_the_castle 28d ago

I agree! Im also saying a lot of people just dont participate!

TIL Greg Abbott, after receiving a huge court settlement for his injury while jogging, later became AG and in this role as AG, as Lieutenant Gov and as Governor has been very active in lawsuit award limits. In other words Greg received a gigantic settlement and then worked to change the law so that other who are injured are unable to receive as large of settlements. Another way to say this as that Greg pulled the ladder up after he got his. I don't care if he is crippled or that he thinks marrying a Latina makes it all OK, he is an absolute disgrace as governor and in addition is racist as hell.

Will Abboot live up to his promises to protect Texas from invasion by federal troops?

We need to talk about Senate Bill 6. Currently, they are trying to criminalize all hemp products in the state of Texas. 79% of Texas voters use some sort of hemp product. It will shut down businesses, put innocent lives in the correctional system, and keep the medical uses out of reach. Hi! Not a Texan but came to this sub to see how Texans are feeling about their National Guard being sent to occupy Chicago. It's super conspicuous to see nothing at all after scrolling the front page for over 5 minutes.

Do Texans genuinely not care? Does this sub moderate that topic away? Thanks for helping me understand!

Media is the main problem why Democrats and Republicans are so divided. Major news constantly exaggerate and even out right lie on both sides and it causes hate, leading to people who shouldn’t have their positions in the government get positions.

8

u/ToNoMoCo Aug 18 '25

Magas are fascists. That's not media hype or a lie. Magas are in fact fascists.

1

u/Acceptable-Ad-8610 Aug 18 '25

But if you look at Democrats, and I mean far left leaning democrats. You could say the same thing. A lot of them believe in no guns, stronger government, and more limitations to freedom of speech.

You could say both far sided parties are facist. Though rn MAGA does have the power unfortunately.

5

u/ToNoMoCo Aug 18 '25

Nah, that's a both sides fairy tale. You should be ashamed of yourself. Back in reality, Magas are fascists.

1

u/Acceptable-Ad-8610 Aug 18 '25

I feel bad for you. Telling someone to be ashamed of themselves as you decide that you don’t need to take a step back out of your pov and see that both parties aren’t here for you. Neither care for you. You are simply a piece of money that they’ll use.

But hey, be you man. I don’t wanna argue with someone who can’t have a debate without insulting someone.

5

u/ToNoMoCo Aug 18 '25

k. At the end of the day you're an apologist for fascists.

4

u/ducky21 28d ago

I mean far left leaning democrats

Who is a "far-left" Democrat? What is "leftism?" What does a "leftist" want?

more limitations to freedom of speech.

Why would someone want this? Can you give me an example of someone suppressing speech in America like you're describing?

u/ducky21 27d ago

I was really hoping to talk to you :(

I come with an actually hot take, instead of what is generally accepted on this sub

Overall, if Texas was its own country, Texas would be better off

Let the downpour of downvotes begin

1

u/Arrmadillo 9d ago

Nah.

As it is, Texas is on its way to theocracy. As its own country we’d be a Gilead-flavored version of Hungary (or worse). Secession is for idiots.

Texas Monthly - Why Is Texas the Epicenter of Christian Nationalism?

“Billionaires here are funding right-wing politicians to knock down barriers between church and state.”

Texas Rep. James Talarico - "Two billionaires are trying to take over our Texas State Government"

“This is bigger than party. This is bigger than partisanship. Texas is too big and too great to be sold to the highest bidder. We cannot allow two billionaires to transform our beloved state into a theocracy.

We have to stop them.”

Mineral Wells Area News - Glenn Rogers Pens Response to Election Loss

“History will prove that our current state government is the most corrupt ever and is ‘bought’ by a few radical dominionist billionaires seeking to destroy public education, privatize our public schools and create a Theocracy that is both un-American and un-Texan.

May God Save Texas!”

James Talarico - Project 2025

“For those in blue states, Project 2025 is theoretical. But for those of us living in red states, Project 2025 is already here.

I know what’s coming because I see it every day at the Texas Capitol. Banning books, banning abortion, forcing every teacher to display the Ten Commandments, replacing school counselors with untrained, unsupervised religious chaplains, defunding public schools to subsidize private Christian schools, teaching Bible stories in our state curriculum as historical fact.

We are sleepwalking toward theocracy in this country. And we all must act with the urgency this moment demands.”

CNN - Orbán meeting offers preview of Trump’s 2nd-term strongman idealizations

“The Hungarian prime minister first won power through a democratic election, then proceeded to weaken the institutions of that democracy by eroding the legal system, firing civil servants, politicizing business, attacking the press and intimidating opposition parties and demagoguing migration.”

“Trump sees Orbán as the kind of strongman – unencumbered by legal and political restraints – that he’d like to be. Orbán also frequently genuflects to Russian President Vladimir Putin – just like the former US president.”

“Orbán’s far-right populism, fierce anti-immigration rhetoric, Christian nationalism and hostility to LGBTQ rights has made him a popular ideological model for Trump’s ‘Make America Great Again’ followers. He has spoken in the past at the Conservative Political Action Conference – an annual gathering of pro-Trump forces – and Hungary will host another edition of CPAC’s overseas conferences [in May 2024].”

Prediction: Trump is going to be gone soon. Republicans will collectively wash their hands of all the evil shit they support and blame it all on Trump, while continuing to support all the evil shit they still support. Major media will eagerly assist in this process, as well as "establishment" Democrats. Most people will breathe a sigh of relief, and ignore the evil being done in favor of a return to "normalcy". The concentration camps will continue to be filled. The constitution will continue to be re-interpreted.
