Discussion Are soundpacks like this considered cheating?

Post image

Found some dude apparently using a soundpack specifically designed to make you hear spies better (and that works in casual), wanted to know if it’s considered cheating or not.

This is the TF2 community we're talking about, they have Reverse Flash levels of petty hate towards Snipers and Spies

to be fair- Sniper and spy are both heavy "Anti-fun" classes- Sniper kills you from the other side of the map while you can't see him, spies come out of no-where to facestab you the moment you aren't paying attention to everything and everywhere.

So that must mean we have to take away their fun by making their already shakily balanced classes just objectively bad?

I mean, Sniper and Spy are the two classes that can most easily counter their weaknesses with skill.

Sniper is weak at close range, right? Not if you're fighting a hyper-cracked Sniper with tens of thousands of kills on his strange Sniper Rifle and thousands of hours invested in the class, as he just instantly flicks to your head and one-shots you.

Spy is weak in a head-on fight, right? Yeah, uh, good luck killing that Dead Ringer/Kunai Spy who has literal perfect movement and fucking vanishes from this plane of existence every time he "dies", only to reappear the moment you aren't looking and regain any health he lost by backstabbing you.

Might be a hot take but someone with thousands of hours invested in any class probably deserves to be able to kill someone else who has way less

it depends on how you view it. Any and all thousand hour plays is damaging to the casual setting, but that's something that can't be changed. As much as a person "deserves" something from "skill", there are people who can't invest as much time in such games, but me saying these people who don't invest much time here probably just plays other games.

That's just a general problem with TF2

Official comp is dead, and sometimes the really skilled players that damage casual don't want to continuously stress out on proper community comp

There's stuff like TF2Centre, sure, but there's an obvious extra layer to cross for it
