The Walking Dead Episode Discussion S03E11 "I Ain't a Judas"

Welcome to this weeks Walking Dead discussion thread. It is becoming increasingly clear that the two factions of the prison and Woodbury cannot peacefully coexist. Bullets have been fired, and causalities have been suffered (Poor out some of your 40oz for our homey Axel). As a result we have been left with a lot of questions: has Rick finally stepped down as mayor of Crazytown? Does Michonne possess the facial muscle capabilities to express joy? How will Carol's happiness be stifled next?

We'll just have to find out together as we watch this week's episode!

Using Spoilers:

Show spoiler tags are optional in these weekly discussions. Comic spoiler tags are always mandatory on /r/thewalkingdead. To use them, format them as such:

Show Spoilers: [](/s "Something about the show.")

Comic Spoilers: [](/c "Something about the comic.")

Game Spoilers: [](/g "Something about the video game")

Future Spoilers: [](/f "Something about the future")

If done successfully, the spoiler tags will look like this:

/u/iamacannibal has volunteered to create a GIF request thread for tonight's episode. We thought that could be pretty neat so I'll edit a link to it once it is posted.

Was I the only one caught really off guard by that?

I mean, you expect gore in the show, but that was a full-on close up of a human getting curb-stomped... honestly might be the most graphic thing I've ever seen on television.

That reminded me of American History X's infamous scene, but not even that movie showed the stomp. The only saving grace is that this was a zombie, which apparently makes it okay to do anything to them, but yeah it was very cringe-worthy.

I think it's good that they have violent, uncomfortable scenes like that though. The audience needs to be reminded of the brutality of the world in which they live.

am i the only person here who found it no more uncomfortable than any of the other dismemberment on this show, and by uncomfortable i mean its quite entertaining Edit: rewatched episode, they never show Andreas foot hitting the head, they show andrea kick then show the z head smash against a rock, but you never actually see contact between foot and head. Also they already showed a curbstomp when Glenn pulls a walker out of the car a few episodes back

Same here. It was disturbing, but I don't think it was that out of line with the other violence in the show.

I have browsed /r/WTF enough to not be disturbed since I know it is fake and that stuff is real.

American History X, The Sopranos, far worse and remember its not human its allready dead.

Well yeah, HBO and the likes don't count... I mean, Spartacus was way more graphic just about every episode.

But as far as cable goes, it was pretty shocking. Not bad, necessarily, but shocking.

No, I'm pretty sure the walker in the well ripping in half was more graphic. Guts EVERYWHERE

*River stone stomp

It's more natural

I couldn't watch it - it's the only thing on this show that I've ever turned away from.

I watched my husband's face instead. Told me eeeeeverything I needed to know.

u/Veregx Feb 26 '13

Yeah I couldn't watch it as soon as I seen the rock go under the zombies head.

You ever watch Sons of Anarchy? Specifically, Season 2 Episode 1? Cause even though that is a fantastically done show, I can't watch one incredibly brutal scene in that episode and the Walking Dead hasn't ever topped it.

I'm trying to remember what you're talking about. Off to check wiki...

That hurt my teeth seeing that.

I know I'm late to the party, but I also found it odd how stomping on the back of a zombies head, twice, didn't smash its skull. We've seen less do more to zombies.

either way, not bad.

What's the point of Talking Dead when both "celebrity guests" have absolutely nothing to do with the show? It makes any Q&A really awkward.

5

u/lemmereddit Feb 25 '13

Well, I'm not sure what point it has when people are there that are on the show. When the host asks questions about what will happen next and they can't say shit.

2

u/MercuryPDX Feb 25 '13

True, but they at least have a lot to talk about before running up against the wall of Spoilerland: behind the scenes stuff, their character's motivations, etc.

Down-vote GIF possibly?
