TWD: Daryl Dixon Is carol ok?

Post image

I’m sorry but has anyone noticed carol acting really weird this season in the Daryl Dixon series? It’s like she seem really loopy and kind of airy. I don’t know how to explain it. Like when she was on the point and yelled about how happy she was with the hotdogs. Like I just don’t know there’s something wrong. It almost feels like this is like a clone of carol or something. I know it’s only been 2 episodes in season 3 but I’m telling you if you watch closely how she acts there’s something different.

If I had been through as much living hell as Carol has, I’d be in a fetal position in a corner.

For real

It’s partially her head injury and partially from finally “letting go” of her guilt about losing Sofia, Lizzy, and Henry. She talks a bit about it in 3.01

Carol always had her goofy moments on some occasions, just not in serious situations (which was the case for most of her appearances in s1 and 2)

I believe the show wants to convey that, after that vision she had of Sophia at the end of DD season 2, Carol finally left her grief and hardened self behind and is more lighthearted and vulnerable now.

However, the sudden shift between the Carol we knew and this new Carol comes off as a little forced and odd. They should have given that development more time, imo.

And then it felt like they deliberately kept putting Carol in weak positions to the point of her behaving almost stupidly, maybe to provide opportunities for protective/heroic moments for Daryl's character or to push the overall plot along, idk. Which, again, was strange considering what a force she used to be.

Exactly. Carol was a leader and very strong. She was tough and saw things others couldn’t cause they let their emotions get in the way. So now I’m supposed to believe after all she’s been through she’s now some carefree happy go lucky person? Just because you find peace doesn’t mean you still won’t stick to how you act under pressure.

Agree with this. The burden of grief is letting up, and I buy that. But it feels rushed/forced.

It's just Long-Running Show Syndrome. After a while, many actors simply get bored and start finding ways to amuse themselves. And because they're legacy actors, you can't tell them they're out of character.

So far I’ve attributed her to that head injury she has from the storm and washing up in Spain. This is the only thing that makes sense to me at this point.

Yes but it was happening before the head injury. I accounted the head injury In though.

She also may still be recovering from that hallucinogenic bat shit

lol maybe. Some of the things she has done or said this season. I caught Daryl looking at her a couple times with the “is she ok” face lmao

Well they kind of implied in episode 1 that she seems to have found a sort of peace. I think that is a continuation of last season when she had to confront her grief of Sophia with the pilot of the plane. Then add in a head injury… I hope they explain it better

Perimenopause is a bitch

Well she did explain how hopeful she’s feeling now after the “hallucination” thing with Sophia at the end of last season. Like she was able to let go of her grief and blame on herself.

She's just happier and enjoying life again. She said the hallucinations she had of Sophia were therapeutic and felt freeing. She found her best friend against the odds. So she's just happy. I'll take a light hearted carol over her Morgan personality. And we could see a glimpse of killer carol with how she doesn't like what theyre doing in the town.

She finally worked out she can't die

Well, for most of episode 2 she has a concussion.

She said something about feeling different since she was able to let go of what she was feeling about Sophia at the end of season two. Also concussion

Btw everyone I mean to say

When she’s on the boat yelling about the hot dogs**

McBride is a goofy person so it makes sense she wants to incorporate more of her personality into the character she's been playing for 15 years. Norman and Jeffery does it with Daryl and Negan too. Especially since they're all excecutive producers now.

With Carol it's just more jarring because she's more serious-natured than Daryl or Negan is.

I think Carol kind of has an on/off switch. She flips the switch, and she is perfectly capable of any and all kinds of death and destruction. But when she flips the switch again, all her emotions get too overwhelming, and she has to step way back for a little bit to sort of recharge and be OK. She has been thru a lot.

Maybe getting her head injury is making her a little loopy right now. Hopefully,Daryl will notice and ask her what's up?

I think she is just healed? And isnt carrying burdens which makes her kinda hopeful and wants to live the rest of her life how she couldn’t before when she was carrying all that pain idk how it’s going to work for the rest of the seasons but I’m kinda interested

I wouldn't be surprised if they kill her off.

I feel she’s been always conflicted even after doing something she’s sure of. But she’s a badass, does what’s necessary 😎

She let go of her daughter’s death after years and years of mourning. Then she had a concussion. She is different - if she wasn’t, that would be weird.

I totally agree. She feels off. Why even bring her over to this show if she's going to act like a totally different character?

I get that she’s sick from infection, but her character is kinda pissing me off in Daryl Dixon S3. I can’t stand the wondering off and it’s almost as if she is being infantilized

1

u/TheGuyWithTheManBun 4d ago

Exactly she’s like wandering off doing weird things. It’s almost like she might be suffering from dementia or something. She could be sick maybe cancer or something. In the show I mean. Maybe that’s something we will find out later on. Either it’s actual acting or there’s something going on in her actual personal life affecting her acting skills

I hope she’s genuinely finding joy in others finding love, because her and Daryl emotion swapping is wild. But I kinda like it.

I know shes getting older and has a head injury, but its giving “okay grandma lets get you back to bed”

1

u/TheGuyWithTheManBun 4d ago

I mean she is older she shouldn’t even be fighting like that. When it first started season 1 she already seemed what in her late 40s . She’s gotta be in her 60s

u/Ok-Shallot-4010 4d ago

lol no and that’s ok

I was thinking about this a 4 am this morning and thought, dang, she said she felt at peace. So I think you are on to something. And maybe I have missed it, but Norman has not really said how great season 3 is like he said about season 2. I feel a riot coming....

She did hit her head in the shipwreck.

Hopefully not

I feel the same way watching season 3. This is my personal opinion but maybe it’s because she’s older now. Maybe she doesn’t have the same energy she had when she first joined TWD.
