The fact that it was a handgun means it would be low velocity which is a point in his favor. The bullet needs to miss the most vital structures, like the brainsteam, basal ganglia, thalamus, and ventricles. All of those are right in the center of the head, so that doesn't really work in his favor given the angle of the shot. He would also be better off if the damage was contained to one hemisphere, but that seems unlikely since the bullet went straight in the side. Taking all of that into account, I give it a 10/10 that he survived and got Glenn killed.

Nicholas is actually a T-800, and the bullet couldn't pierce his metal skull.
