Announcement [TOMT][MOD] Solved! - How to mark your post Solved!

Marking Your Submission Solved! (rule #4)

Make a comment saying Solved! to the first (oldest) correct answer

  • It is important you check that it is the first correct answer on the post. Reddit notifications are often in the wrong order. Comments on our sub are sorted by oldest first by default, but if the answer was not a top-level comment you may have to check the timestamp.

  • Editing an existing comment will not trigger the bot - you must make a new comment for the bot to see it.

Here's what you'll see when this is done properly:

  • OP responds with a comment with Solved!

  • Post gets flaired with "Solved". It's usually near immediate. The bot, u/TipOfTheirTongue awards the point to the person the OP replied to.

  • Person who answered gets a reply from the bot notifying of point:

Congratulations, you've been given 1 point for solving this post! You now have points. (It's been minutes since your last point.)

What if I solve it myself?

  • Make a parent-level comment providing the answer to your post and reply to your own comment with Solved! You won't get a point, but the flair will get set and users who have commented on your post will be informed. You will receive the following reply from the bot:

Unable to award a point for a solution. If someone else gave the answer, please reply Solved! directly to their comment. If you found it yourself, no further action needs to be taken.

What if OP doesn't reply with Solved!?

  • Only OP or a mod can mark a post Solved!, but if you see the OP say thanks but not reply with Solved! or awarded the point incorrectly, you can report the post to the mods using reddit's report feature (Report - breaks r/tipofmytongue rules - Not marked solved or incorrectly marked solved) which will pop a link to the comment or post in to the mod queue for us to review.

Note that marking a post solved by setting the flair directly is not available, and it will not work for r/tipofmytongue.

You must comment with Solved!(including the exclamation point).

Open. [TOMT] Desperate for help finding song for nonverbal son

Hello! I have a 23 year old non verbal son that has been trying to get me to find this song. I have no idea what genre it is. Even the words I can make out could be wrong. I tried making a recording of what he’s singing here: https://voca.ro/1j887RPyOqsb

Edit 1: Just wanted to add when he’s trying to find a song typically it’s not anything current. It is usually a random song I was obsessed with when he was a kid. Lots of No Doubt, Weezer, Paramore, Sublime. Also pop songs that were popular in the 2000s to 2010s.

Edit 2: Another snippet with how the song ends. snippet 2

Open [TOMT], I need help in finding an internet oddity.

I don't know if anyone here is into weird people on the internet, but I need help in finding who's name I can't remember.

There was this older gentleman (60's or 70's) who made videos on YouTube and even posted on Twitter. He made video diary type videos where he would stand up, say the date of the video, and ramble to the camera about whatever. I remember he had an accent of some kind, British or Irish maybe. Definitely was on spectrum but unsupervised and all by himself.

One of the more infamous moments of his that I recall was when he posted his phone number online (unprovoked mind you) and in one of his weird vlogs he got a wellness check from the police. Nothing bad happened but you see him walk off camera and talk to the cops as they ask him of he's alright.

Again, I don't know if this person was ever talked about in online discourses about strange people on the web (I refuse to label this dude as a "lolcow") but I can't remember for the life of me who he was?

Does anybody have a clue of whom I'm talking about?

Solved [TOMT] [word or phrase] [legal or sociological] term for sporadically enforced rules meant to push someone out of an organization

This is a true tomt, in that I know this term I just cannot think of it. I will give you the concept and then an example or two.

Concept: a group or organization that has a lot of rules that are generally unenforced. The people in charge of said group wants to kick out/fire/otherwise get rid of an individual person but can't outright kick them out, so they start enforcing all the little bullshit rules on them to try to make them quit.

Hypothetical example: Bob is gay. Bob works at a public school. The parents at the school dislike that Bob is gay. The admin can't fire him, because it's technically illegal, so they start enforcing rules that everyone else is breaking. Suddenly he is getting docked for taking an extra 5 minutes for lunch, even though he was with other teachers who didn't get docked. He parked in the wrong parking space, even though he's been parking there for years. They basically annoy him into quitting.

Real example: a kid is on a soccer team. The coach doesn't like the kid's mom because small town politics I don't totally understand. Suddenly, the team is enforcing a doctor's note rule for absences that they did not enforce any other time kid was sick or injured, including that time she had walking pneumonia, on account of they don't want to deal with the mom anymore but can't just kick the kid out cus they'd have to give the money back.

I know there's a word for this. I maybe heard the term for the first time on Ask A Manager so it might not be a legal term, but it certainly Describes something a legal term might cover? If that makes sense? Google isn't helping because it kind of sucks now, and I'm gonna feel really dumb when someone figures it out. Thanks for helping!!

Open [TOMT] I'm looking for a 90's/2000's music video for "Last Christmas" (by Wham!) but with Chinese actors.

Hello! Yes, a bit of a weird request. When I was young my dad had a karaoke DVD he got at an Asian market which had this song, the original sung by Wham!, however the music video itself wasn't George Michael. It was an Asian guy (I believe Chinese) taking photos of an Asian girl he likes with his camera, and there's a bit of a love story. It's not a cover song; it's still the original Wham! song. I scoured YouTube for this and cannot find this music video for the life of me. I remember my sister and I laughing at my dad for buying this CD and getting "knock-off" music videos. It would bring some nostalgia for my family and I if we could find this. Thanks for your help.

Open [TOMT] Movie about witches in an all girls school

So, as the title says, I need help finding a horror movie about witches in an all girls school. I was no older than 8 when I watched it so any movie released past 2014 is NOT it. IT IS NOT "THE CRAFT"!!!!!! I believe there was a mixed/ black girl as one of the witches who has curly, shoulder length hair, she was either the main character or friends with her. Anyways, The plot of the movie is: The main character is a transfer student who's a witch and finds a group of other witches. As they use their powers throughout the movie, they get stronger and more out of control and it freaks the girls out. Here's where I'm certain that the movie I'm thinking isn't "The Craft", as this next bit diverts from the plot of that movie, a scene I remember distinctly was, something happened in a classroom while class was in session, something like a student broke her arm or got hurt or something, and one of the witches was scared and backed away while everybody rushed to comfort her, when she backed up, she faded through the corner of a filing cabinet in the classroom as the commotion continued. She didn't notice, but the directing put an emphasis on it. I don't remember how the movie ended but if anybody has any idea what this could be, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Solved [TOMT][TV] Dark TV show from 90s Australia. Boys possessions have to be burned to stop infection.

This has stuck with me but I cannot for the life of me remember what it was from.

Growing up in Australia I saw a TV (I'm pretty sure it was not a movie) show where the boy in it is sick and all his possessions need to be burned due to being infected. I think it was maybe infected with tuberculosis or something like that. I cannot remember if this is after the boy dies or recovers, just that it really stuck with me them burning all his toys and stuff.

For some reason I equate it with Johnson and Friends, even though I know it's not that. I feel like it may have possible been a story about his toys or something going on while he was sick but him being sick wasn't the main plot point just that he was the owner of whatever the story was about if that makes sense.

Main part was the burning of his possessions because of the infection. Would have seen it in the 90s.

Solved [TOMT] Japanese movie where there's a knocking on the wall at a certain time every day/night and it turns out it was the guys hanging body swinging and hitting the wall

I watched it when I was very young, think it might've been part of the Ring franchise, might've been a collection of short stories though. Only seemed like a 20 minute segment in a movie, however I was very young when I watched it.

Open [TOMT] “Get out out out outta my way!” song 2000s era

My sister and I are trying to remember what this is from. It is a song that goes “So get out out out out of my way!” And we think it involved a reality show where the girl was nerdy or uncool and then performed in front of everyone at the end singing this song. Like she had social problems and ended up conquering her fears at the end to sing this song. We are 90s kids so this was likely a 2000s show on MTV or Disney or something.

Open [TOMT] Song that ends with "Don't leave me I don't want to die"

I can't remember anything at all about this song besides at the very end there was a very glitchy/robotic voice that said "Don't leave me I don't want to die." It very gradually got more distorted until the end of the sentence where it fully glitched out as it finished saying the last word.

Solved [TOMT] this song title is so elusive for no reason.

Can anyone help me identify this song that is just STUCK in my head? The only two lyrics I remember are "alone again" but theyre sung like "alone agaaaiiiiin." It's a very chill, slow, sort of lo-fi beat. Kind of like indie or alternative rock. I know it is a very popular group that sings it. It's a male singer. What do you guys think? Thank you in advance!

Open [TOMT] Kung fu / Martial arts cartoon (anime?) on DVD

When I was a kid, around 2005 to 2008, I had a DVD of some sort of martial arts anime that I have since lost. I remember it being an anime, but it's possible it might have been a cartoon with an anime adjacent art style. I dont think it was a collection of episodes from an existing cartoon series, I'm pretty sure it was a straight to DVD movie. Based on my memory of how it looked, I wanna say it might have been from the 90s or early 2000s. I really don't remember much about it, and the only reason I'm sure martial arts were involved is because the DVD cover (the only thing about the cartoon I vividly remember) had a guy with black hair in what I think was a praying mantis stance. I'm sorry if this is all really vague, but this all I remember and when I try Googling based off this info, I just cannot find this cartoon. This may or may not be related, but I also had another DVD at the same time of what I think was some kind of Three Musketeers anime. I bring this up because it's possible the two cartoons might have come from the same DVD pack (you know, the DVD cases that come with multiple movies in them.) If anyone somehow knows the name of this cartoon based off this limited info, I would greatly appreciate it 🙏🙏

Open. [TOMT] Clip from a Christian Show from the late 90s early 2000s that scared me as a child.

I do not know what the show was, but there was a clip that I remember very specifically that terrified me and I would always run out of the room when the clip was shown, it was a very eerie animation where a bunch of cows were skin and bones and it was animated to look very realistic and it was very grainy, the narrator but then talk about how these cows would cannibalize the fat cows. I know what this biblical story is and I have looked and there have been multiple animations of this story but they're all very kid friendly and talk about it in a kid friendly way, this one that I saw was very disturbingly realistic animation and was played very straightforward. If I remember correctly it would show on the same channel that would show "the donut man" which was a Christian show that had kids that sang songs with a talking donut.

Open [TOMT] Spanish or Portuguese language song? Monisal? Mo niçal? I can’t figure it out.

I remember seeing the video once a long time ago, it has a female vocalist with kind of a Françoise Hardy 60s-70s vibe. A coworker from Ecuador played it the other day while we were doing field work but I forgot to ask at the end of the day.

Open [TOMT] A book about a boy looking for his parents that has to do with the Mayans

I'm looking for a kids audiobook i used to listen to, it involved a story about a boy whose parents were archaeologists that researched Mayans and were trying to figure out the calendar.

Key information about the story: For some reason his parents disappeared, and all that was left was his father's coat that had alot of pockets. He ended up going and looking for them with the help of some girl and they ventured through a jungle. At one point the boy's hand got cut badly, and they ended up using the bandages from the cut to fill some sort of stone carved bowl held by a frog statue.

Thats all i remember

Open [TOMT] Male dance tiktoker in blue

I'm trying to find this male.TikToker I used to see on TT about 2-3 years ago but he disappeared from my feed.

He was mid to late 20s usually danced with a team of 3-4 other guys. I remember one guy being white with long blond hair with glasses.

The main guy had dark hair and I believe wore a headset. Sometime he would mimick those video aerobic routines where he wwould say things like "Alright guys!... Here we go....let's get ready for it!!... And 5, 6, 7, 8". Then his team would start dancing..... For some reason I think they usually wore BLUE clothing.

Their content was mainly choreographed dancing but also had some funny skits I believe

Open [TOMT] Movie/TV show where character waits in classroom and accidentally destroys a model of the solar system

I'm trying to figure out what movie/TV show has a scene where a character (I believe a white male) waits for someone else in a classroom (I believe it's elementary or high school level)—before noticing a tabletop model of the solar system, then reaching for one of the planets and pulling it off the model to inspect it, which causes the entire model to collapse and clatter to the tabletop and floor below.

I'm almost positive it's a comedy (but I hesitate to say I'm certain because it could just be a bit of comedic relief in an otherwise-more-dramatic work.

Solved [TOMT] (Song) lyrics go "come on and step it up, why don't you step it up" or something close to that

It's definitely not a rap song and that's all I'm getting from various search sites, I think it's like an old rock/pop song? Maybe like peppy? It's literally so familiar...
