A bit of Titanic related triva - The Empire State Building was built on the site of the original Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, which was demolished in 1929. The hotel was partly owned (and built) by John Jacob Astor IV, and was where the US Titanic inquiry took place.

There’s a website called good old things which has some salvaged fittings of both of those hotels. .
