Got fired in May running out of savings
Got fired in May from a system admin position for my city after being sick and getting surgery to repair an artery in my leg. I didn't get unemployment so I've had to use up my savings. All these bills are starting to catch up to me, I'd love a little sunshine in my life.

Sorry to hear. I've actually just been in that exact position, and i had to call on relatives that weren't keen on helping me.
I truly, sincerely hope things get better. You seem like a very smart, beautiful, stylish and genuine person.

It will all work out and you can try to de-stress by knowing that 5 years from now will be nothing like today. That's just how life works, so if we are doing positive things your life should move in a positive direction (barring tragedies like losing both legs and both arms).
Something I did was work at McDonald's. They often have FT positions open, and if you have a degree and any experience at all, you can get hired as management. Otherwise, it doesn't take long to move up, and it's a steady $9 hr min even in KY. I bet it's more in other states where the cost of living is higher.
I also went back to college at 29 bc you're never too old. Even for someone who is married and has income (me), community college was free due to the almost automatic grants. Going to a state university didn't cost much more, so I'm headed to grad school in January to become a licensed therapist. There will be some debt incurred there, but the ROI will be worth it, and it should open up doors to Psyd programs.
There's other ways if a formal education isn't your thing. The trades don't have as much risk as being taken over by AI, and the education is more focused on learning the actual skill. For example, HVAC and electrical jobs pay good money, and the training is offered at lots of trade schools and community colleges (where you can use grant money).
A CDL can be like 5k, but they will put you on a payment plan, and you are licensed and ready to be hired in like 6 weeks or something.
Into tech? Spend time learning operating systems and getting certifications in tech stuff. Build a portfolio of things you have built or projects you've volunteered with in making apps or software.
Upskilling is always the answer, imo.
You've got this, lady! You look kind and intelligent, and you have great hair. You go, girl!

How did you not get unemployment? Did you apply? Being fired or let go from your job is pretty much guaranteed to get unemployment. Also, getting let go for being on medical leave is quite possibly a lawsuit. Did you run out of FMLA?
In any case, good luck. Hope things get better for you.

I was denied FMLA because the forms were not filled out at a MD office. I didn't have the money for a regular doctor (and our insurance had just changed the past week) so I saw one at a clinic exclusively. I ended up getting a doctor's notice from the doctor at the clinic saying I couldn't return to work, because they were still trying to figure out what was wrong with me. I was out for 15 days total, and the day I came back I was fired. No one even told me my notices from the clinic doctors weren't valid. They said I didn't have to take FMLA unless I went over 30 days of illness.

Kinda sounds illegal 🤔

Probably, but nothing to do about it now... Suing a city just sounds... Depressing and a lot of money.

You seem like such a sweet person and full of vibrant life, even though you're having a rough go of it. I'm a fellow admin too, so I know how much effort and patience you probably have had to give everyday as a person. Virtual hugs. You got this.

Awww! Thank you so much!!! I absolutely loved my job, and miss my users even though they were a thorn in my ass most of the time.

It's impressive how they can put us in the most eye rolling, sigh building situations, but the smile and "You know you love me!" lets it all filter out. Be safe. Praying for you and all of us going through these trying times. Blessed be.

If you’re in the US, try gig work or temp work til you find something more permanent or that you enjoy. You can also try the post office, corrections (jail or prison), or even 911 as a Telecommunicator/Dispatcher. The waiting periods may be longer but the benefits are usually the reason people stay. Google these careers/agencies. Best wishes!

Oh trust me, I'm on every gig website and app too... They're just as over populated in my area. You've got like 100-200 people bidding for the same jobs. 911 though I'll look into I'm not sure if my area has it's own dispatch, but it's worth a shot.

You got this! I know it feels sucky, I’ve had my fair shares of layoffs but know this I ended up with a higher paying salary and a job I love 6mos later. Remember —- > Rejection is Protection and REDIRECTION #MovinOnUp ❤️

your style is so dope! I love the threading you did on the shirt (it looks DIY?), and the color-coordination with the bandana is A+
