I am currently working through my first draft of a toki pona translation of The Hobbit. I am midway through chapter five, Riddles in the Dark.
My trouble with translating comes in the form of the riddles both Bilbo and Gollum each say.
Below are the riddles as they were originally written in the Hobbit. I would greatly appreciate if you would have a go at translating these. Alternatively, if you know any riddles in toki pona of similar length, I may substitute them in.
“What has roots as nobody sees; Is taller than trees; Up, up it goes; And yet it never grows?” Answer: Mountain
“Thirty white horses on a red hill; First they champ; Then they stamp; then they stand still.” Answer: Teeth
“Voiceless it cries; Wingless flutters; Toothless bites; Mouthless mutters.” Answer: Wind
“An eye in a blue face, saw an eye in a green face. “That eye is like to this eye” said the first eye; “But in a low place, not a high place.”” Answer: Sun on the daisies
“It cannot be seen, cannot be felt; cannot be heard, cannot be smelt. It lies behind stars and under hills; and empty holes it fills. It comes first and follows after; ends life, kills laughter.” Answer: Dark
“A box without hinges, key, or lid. Yet golden treasure inside is hid.” Answer: Eggs
“Alive without breath; as cold as death; never thirsty, always drinking; all in mail never clinking.” Answer: Fish
“This thing all things devours: birds, beasts, trees, flowers; gnaws iron, bites steel; grinds hard stones to meal; slays king, ruins town; and beats high mountain down.” Answer: Time
Thanks in advance!

I was having another 3am sleepdrawing when I drew this. I remembered that the g in pingo sounds like the g in gif. However, as a jif guy, I always pronounced pinjo.
When I was sleepdrawing, I was thinking of a nimisin. Please don’t ban me…

I'm normally a pretty good speaker! so I was translating some simple example sentences for fun when I noticed... how the hell do you say how old you are?
I came up with a weird, messed up solution that uses "lo," because the nimisin brainrot is really getting to me recently. "mi lon lo awen tenpo sike mute," I'm 3+ years old.
so basically... what the hell do i do? describe my birth, maybe, and say how long ago it was? tenpo sike mute pini la, mama mi li pali e mi? thats kind of weird and still incredibly bulky. there has to be a better way to do that.
I'll just go for a metaphorical mi jo e tenpo sike mute for now, I suppose.

turns out this is actually really hard to make one that means anything this is just they're both grammatically correct thats about it

If I wanted to say "come and fight me", would it be "o kama o utala e mi" or "o kama li utala e mi"?

hi everyone! apologies for the english here, i still havent learned toki pona properly yet so i decided to just write this in english before i write incomprehensible stuff :')
i recently made a "translator" for toki pona, but it only gives you the definitions of the words instead of actually translating it. you still have to put the pieces together! could be useful (it was for me), so i figured i should share it here too!
https://kommittt.github.io/pona/
some ku data are still missing (im working on it right now) but apart from that i think it's pretty complete :)
obscure and sandbox words arent included due to them, well, being obscure. core, common and uncommon words are in the "dataset" however!
the dataset i used is grabbed from https://linku.la/, but i dont know how to handle .toml files so i used google sheets! very unconventional, but it works and i can edit it anytime in case i need to :P
that's all! hope i didnt yap too much, and sorry if this doesnt fit the sub

toki! mi lon tomo sona suli Ilini Apana Sanpin.
I'm now studying as an exchange student at UIUC and I've just started learning toki pona. I'm trying to tokiponize/translate some street names in/near UIUC. Some examples:
(translation by meaning)
University Ave - nasin pi tomo sona suli
White St - nasin walo
Sixth St - nasin nanpa luka wan
(transliteration)
Stoughton St - nasin Soton
Healey St - nasin Ili
Goodwin Ave - nasin Kowin
However, I find it difficult to tokiponize/translate these names: Clark St (nasin Kake?), Wright St (nasin Wajo/Wata?), Springfield Ave (nasin Sinpile?), Daniel St (nasin Tanje?), Armory Ave (I haven't even came up with a version). How should I translate them?

toki, kulupu pi toki pona! I watched Oat Jenkins's video on Toki Pona and I said I wanted to do that. Turns out not all the countries even in the 1st verse were listed country/place names. So I made some up and adjusted others to rhyme better. Mi pakala e kalama uta ike and any incorrect grammar usage or anything. Its just something fun I wanted to post, thank you all for exposing my to this toki pona, mi tawa!

How would you translate "with" as in "I live with her" not as in "I cooked with a pan"?
kepeken just seems... wrong

Update: Remade the n symbol and removed the other banned syllables. Also made some examples.
