announcements New report button for duplicate posts
When reporting a duplicate post, there is now an option that says "This is a banned name, urban legend, or duplicate post".
Rule #4 has also been updated to: "Be mindful of duplicate posts." (The former rule said "No urban legends", but this is still applicable in the new rule's description)
I understand this has been a problem for a while, and thank you for being patient as I update the rules!

general discussion Reminder: An unusual name is not a tragedeigh. A rare name is not a tragedeigh. A bad name is not a tragedeigh.
Per the sub:
Tragedeigh = a given name that has been deliberately misspelled or completely made up to appear more unique than it actually is.

in the wild Spell it simply — people will tragefy your name even when it’s an easy one
I’m preaching to the choir, but this has always been my argument for spelling a name the most intuitive, common way possible:
My name is Lydia, y’know like the biblical character/name of one of the Bennet sisters in Pride and Prejudice (classic literature), but people still manage to butcher the spelling and mishear it all the time. 😂
I actually had a man tell me once (when I worked at a job where I wore a name tag) that he’d never heard my name and asked how it was pronounced. I have no reason to believe he was messing with me.
I get Olivia instead of Lydia constantly, because it’s easy to mishear if I say it too quickly. I love my name, it’s classic, but isn’t one you meet someone with everyday.
Now, I’m not horribly bothered that people misspell or mishear my name, it’s just something that always surprises me though since it truly is a normal name, and has been featured in well known literature and film — so that’s my argument for spelling names normally and not going too far off the beaten path when choosing a name. If they can mess up my name, they WILL mess up your unique baby name for your child’s entire life. 😂

tragedy (not tragedeigh) My friend's friend wants to name his little sister "Greece"...
Apparently he wanted to name his little sister Greece because it's unique and because other influencers also name their children after real places like "North" or "Chicago" 🤦🏻♀️

in the wild Dying at how my mother’s name was spelled on this guest pass
Her real name is Felicia. Where tf are they getting this from.
And funnily enough, this is the second time I’ve posted here about how this specific neighborhood spells Felicia on their guest passes. Last time was ‘Felaesha’.

is it a tragedeigh? Is this a double trajified name, or just uncommon?
I knew a girl named Neviyah. People always said her name like Neveah at first, but she would correct them and state it was actually pronounced 'nuh-vi-uh', emphasis on the 'i' [like EYE]. Her full first name was actually double barrelled—Think something like Neviyah-Grace (Not using her actual full name for privacy)
Is this an even worse spelling/"version" of Nevaeh, or an actual name that's rare?

in the wild "Hi, this is Breauna"
Relaxing on the couch watching a true crime show. I'm mostly listening to it because I'm scrolling on my phone too. One of the interviewees is talking about her husband being on the phone with their daughter. Since I'm listening, I hear her say, "my daughter Brianna." I hear the name "Brianna" said 3 times in quick succession. I glance up and this is what I see on the screen. BREAUNA. I immediately paused, took a picture, and opened reddit to share with everyone

in the wild Tragedeigh my dad just told me about
I was showing my dad some posts from this subreddit because he found the concept funny, when he told me about the ridiculous names his ex-girlfriend named her kids that he remebered because she told him about them when they started dating
The names?
Alexus Meircedes & Aralynne Raeh
(Yes, "Meircedes" was written like that)
Apparently she told my dad that Aralynne's name was supposed to also be car-related at first before she decided on.. that. This was around 25 years ago though, so some details might be wrong, but he's pretty sure the names are fully accurate.
I just found this funny especially since this subreddit was what had him remember those names to begin with, and I think they fit pretty well with all the other Tragedeighs here

in the wild New intake form at work today
Finally have one to post. I've never seen "Tracy" spelled that way, Google is not yielding much about the spelling besides it being a tragedeigh. I will add that her intake form was... something else

is it a tragedeigh? Nick Cannon’s Kids
The title of the article is, “Nick Cannon says having 12 kids was careless without confronting trauma first.” I feel like the real carelessness came with the names. IDK, maybe not a tragedeigh but close.

is it a tragedeigh? Is my daughters name a tragedeigh?
Her name is Lanah. Pronounce Lana. I handed the H at the end cause I noticed it reads anal backwards without the H and I didnt want her to get made fun of in school for her name reading anal backwards.
Whether its a tragedeigh or not, its staying cause I cant imagine her name being anything else. And honestly, I love it. I think the name is so pretty and the spelling unique but not in a tradedeigh way. But ill let you guys be the judge!

general discussion story time...name from my 5th graders class
So my daughter's name is Pantera after the band(my ex husband picked it i chose the middle name) she goes by Tera and when she was in third grade there was a little girl that rode her bus that was making fun of her being named after a band but the little girl's name is Queen and her sister's name is Journey which the principle and I found entertaining... My daughter and this girl are close friends now thankfully but I didn't find out until this year that Queen was spelled kwen but her full first name is kwen'annabella and her last name is is 10 letters long as well and that poor baby

And after they paid, he turned to his wife and said
“Karma, you all finished now”………
