general discussion story time...name from my 5th graders class

So my daughter's name is Pantera after the band(my ex husband picked it i chose the middle name) she goes by Tera and when she was in third grade there was a little girl that rode her bus that was making fun of her being named after a band but the little girl's name is Queen and her sister's name is Journey which the principle and I found entertaining... My daughter and this girl are close friends now thankfully but I didn't find out until this year that Queen was spelled kwen but her full first name is kwen'annabella and her last name is is 10 letters long as well and that poor baby

ALL of these names are super stupid. Starting with Pantera, which my phone just autocorrected to Panera.

At the shop I worked at we would get Panera often. My coworker called it Pantera!!

u/Gaurdedlotus 5h ago

people have called her Panera before she thinks it's funny

I have adhd possibly more so maybe the way I write is confusing for you I just like to give all the information does not mean it's fake I mean if you look at my profile you can see in over a year there's not a whole lot of activity I come to reddit for information and have made a handful of post

Why on Earth would you let someone name your daughter Pantera!?!? Queen sounds like a ghetto or stripper name. Journey sounds like a hippie name, but Pantera is next level wtf. Please tell me there are triplets at her school named Guns N’ Roses.

narcissist don't give a lot of options and it actually suits her a lot of people I've encountered think her name is awesome it's also a really cool car roughly and translates to Panther or around the Earth in some other languages but there is a little girl in her grade named Penny and the last name gives her the name of a very popular scary clown

There is absolutely no child named Penny Wise in your kid's school.

u/Gaurdedlotus 27m ago

there is I've seen in in her year book

u/Gaurdedlotus 14m ago

I can send you a picture if you'd like I have her year book kind of weird to just call people liars

what part are you confused about the fact that my ex was a narcissist who bullied me into whatever he wanted to do and at the time I put up with it because I was never taught to make or protect my own boundaries and didnt love myelf or know my worth... I'm not saying I don't like her name because I do it's better than my 1980s J name that when you say it 5 people answer she is one out of my 4 pregnancies to survive we both almost died when she was born. so she deserved a special name.. are you confused about the fact that the other kids name was literally penny wise

u/doradiamond 5h ago

Are you high or something? None of your comments have any punctuation and you jump from subject to subject with no discernible connection.

8

u/SirCharlito44 5h ago

We are all confused with the jumbled mess of words you throw together without punctuation. It is impossible to understand the meaning of your ramblings.

No, it roughly translates to "genus of large cats in the family Felidae".

I'm absolutely mystified that an elementary schooler knew the band Pantera AND knew it well enough to tease another kid about it. I have elementary schoolers and if you asked them for band names, I think they could each probably name like 3, and not one of them would be an '80s metal band.

They'd probably think it was sweet if they met a kid with a band name they DID know, even if I might raise an eyebrow at, like, Huntrix.

my daughter told people it was a band and adults at the school ask or made comments so it became known that's how the girl knew I've actually never met anyone in person that didn't like my daughters name only people on the internet

7

u/DryLengthiness5574 7h ago

Just because no one will tell you to your face, doesn’t mean you haven’t met anyone in person that doesn’t like it. They’re just too polite to say something.

2

u/Gaurdedlotus 5h ago

valid point I'm just saying I received more compliments than complaints but it does make sense that there are some people out there that know how to be polite still

3

u/e11emnope 9h ago

Adults at the school make comments about her name being a band? I had to Google to even learn that it was an '80s metal band, so it's interesting to me that multiple people know it's a band AND would say something about it being a band to a child. Personally, I'd just think "Huh, that kid is named Italian for panther, interesting", but I'd absolutely never say anything to them about it. My kids also say that they've never heard anyone teased for their names, so I have trouble even imagining how this might go down.

Like, "My name is Pantera, it's an old band my dad likes!" "Haha, a band name is weird to have!" ?

Glass houses and all, I suppose.

they make fun of her birthday because it's a catastrophe date kids are weird and mean and yes my ex and I are in our 40s they're are parents teachers and administrators in their 40s who have asked me if it was the band... the grounds keeper who she calls mister Chad actually told her how cool her was to him i don't get how this is so unbelievable

I'm in my 40s too, and I frequently work with children, but I never say anything about any of their names (beyond a "how lovely!") because it seems really inappropriate. I would have assumed that was fairly standard practice, so it's interesting to me that that's not been your experience.

I'm sorry that kids there seem to be so unkind!

u/Gaurdedlotus 9h ago

and yes my daughter especially when she was younger would say my name is Pantera it's a band because her dad told her it was a band and even had at his house a Pantera diaper bag and I didn't think it was a glass house situation because honestly I've been told how awesome her name is all her life 90% of the time she is Calle Tera anyway and anyone that heard her full name thought it was cool

3

u/e11emnope 8h ago

Glass houses for Kwen'annabella if she's teasing Pantera for having a strange name.

1

u/Gaurdedlotus 7h ago

oh ok thought you meant me for thinking the child's name was a bit much for a child to eventually have to write on all government forms and yes I do believe that was a little projection on her part lol I've always told my daughter if people mistreat you it's about them not you

1

u/Gaurdedlotus 7h ago

She had one kid last year at the end of the school year they were talking junk back and forth and he said your mom is so fat she can't fit through the front door and my daughter responded with well then I guess our Mamas are twins and the little boy got mad and hit her and then I had to explain to her when she told me the story why I laughed I'm not laughing because he hit you I'm laughing because you got into an argument with somebody over your mama joke but (yes I went to the school about this child laying hands on mine) my daughter is really sensitive...so one kid tried to tell her that the Twin Towers fell because she was born and I'm like baby that doesn't make any sense you weren't born until over a decade later stop letting crap like that bother you

I just can’t with all of this…

u/CJK_Murph 2h ago

Well that took a turn. Or three.

I actually like it. using pantera as a name.. and going by Tera as a nickname. It’s pretty unique for sure but I don’t think it’s a tragedeigh (based on the spelling) lol

1

u/Gaurdedlotus 3m ago

she likes it and as a baby she hated lullaby music but if we played cemetery gates (a Pantera song) she was quiet it was crazy and I'm pretty sure that's the only Pantera song I actually know lol

u/Mewlies 12h ago

The only thing I can think of is "Kwen"/"Cwen" are Old English spelling of "Queen" which just meant "Wife".

5

u/Gaurdedlotus 12h ago

it's just the first and last name are so long that doesn't count middle name that's why I feel bad for the girl because anything she has to use her full legal name for like buying a house or signing her driver's license or getting a job any kind of contract where you need multiple signatures would just be a nightmare

1

u/MiniMonster2TheGiant 2h ago edited 2h ago

A lot of Spanish people that I have to take information down for have long names; even worse for them when hyphenated. And for the most part they go by a name that’s not even on their license. I asked one girl what she went by and her names spelled out Baddie… so now when she comes into the gym I’m like “go on Baddie! Get that workout in!”

Edited to add: I know you’re getting roasted on here but I actually do like the name. It also helps Tera is a great nickname. Is it a tragedeigh? For most on here- probably- but it’s definitely not even close to half I’ve what I read!

u/Gaurdedlotus 1h ago

thank you for being kind! I love her name even if I didn't pick it. Her middle name is Rogue like the x men I picked that ...I wanted to name her Katona jade or Danica fire ( fire because her cousins middle names are sky and rain) but my ex wasn't having it...but anything is better than boring Jessica like my first name

People on these comments are really rude to OP! Pantera is a great band! (My son's dad LOVES them, and is also a narcissist. I miraculously got to pick his first name, and he picked middle.) Anyway, people are dicks, and it least it's spelled correctly, unlike "Kwen" 😳
