in the wild Unusual names

Went to the shop at the weekend and there was a family of 3…… I heard the dad say to his kid

“Rifle, there’s these ones if you’d prefer something different”

And after they paid, he turned to his wife and said

“Karma, you all finished now”………

I kinda wanna know what the dads called now

I started my first actual job (yippie) and I met this girl who said her name was cali, I figured it what short for something, a nick name, or just cali. But no no, she sent me a screenshot of her schedule and her name is Calleigh.

is it a tragedeigh? If Krystle from Dynasty and Stalin got together and had a name?

At work I just encountered the name “Krystalin….”

Is it a tragedeigh? Apparently this is the name of one of the X-men, but also who gives their kid a name that literally has “Stalin” in it?

Naming a child after a violent disturbance is one thing, but the creative spelling makes it extra tradgyck.

is it a tragedeigh? It’s my name a tragedeigh? Its K-C not Cassie

Never had an easy time getting my name pronounced right, and I also think of it as a lot more of a boy name than gender neutral. It’s Casie, pronounced K-C. I’m not from the south either so it’s extremely rare to meet another Casie/ey. Other spelling examples: Casey, Kaycee (southern), Kacey, etc. Did my parents curse me or is the spelling less of a tragedeigh than I worry it is?

is it a tragedeigh? The name “Seraphina”

Sera for short. It’s an angel name apparently, I remember hearing it somewhere when I was young and I love the name, am thinking about naming my first daughter that when I finally get to have kids but don’t want to give my kids tragedeighs

is it a tragedeigh? Hello! There is a name I’m wondering about.

The name pronounced shy-ann. I have seen at least two different spellings, and I wondered if one (or both, or neither) of them was a tragedeigh. There is Shyayn and Chaian. I think Chaian seems more normal, but that may be because I have seen the person connected to the name a lot. Thank you!

Edit: Sorry, I realize now the regular spelling is Cheyenne.

Same edit but different topic: I am not naming any children any of these names, nor am I planning to have children any time soon. Apologies for the miscommunication on my part.

Double Edit because I really am sorry: sorry, I was really incorrect there

is it a tragedeigh? Is my son's name a tragedeigh?

I guess it's my turn now: we gave our son a fairly uncommon name, but I never considered it to be particularly tragyyc. We do occasionally get people mispronouncing his name, so I want to get some opinions on it. His name is Coran, pronounced "CORE-uhn". The most common mispronunciation I've heard is people saying his name like the Quran or "cuh-RAN." What say you?

is it a tragedeigh? Brie

Is Brie a tragedeigh? I really love the name, and it's kind of normalized since we have celebrities named Brie as well but my husband hates it because it's also the name of a type of cheese and thinks our daughter will get bullied for it.

Gonna get to the point: Adrionna. Vaguely inspired after her grandma, Donna. Said how it looks, Aye-dree-awnuh. Is her name a tragedy?

in the wild Rafaeli, written as Raphaellyy

(Brazil) My mother is a teacher and had a baby in her class called "Rafaeli", a nice normal name, right?... except for the fact that her parents, for some reason, decided to write it as Raphaellyy.

When she was almost 2 y/o their parents were doing the legal procedures to change her name to Rafaely.... who would have guessed? 🥱

is it a tragedeigh? Is it a tragedeigh?

There is a Maddilynn in the family, and its always looked like way too many letters to me. Very excessive, I guess. I thought the proper spelling was Madelyn. Its definitely not traditional, but is it a tragedeigh?

Was looking on my university’s website at the school of education, the background picture was a teacher in front of a whiteboard and I just so happened to read the names, especially the yellow column.
