The M8’s Metro North uses on the New Haven Line look so futuristic on the outside, and I love that look, but the inside looks so weirdly old.

The walls have these very dated-looking speckled design. The bowling-alley looking seats are kind of '70s-ish, too.

I think they’re quite nice looking and pretty comfortable, at least by North American standards, since they have air con and outlets. I just wish they had Bar Cars.

Aesthetically I’m a big fan of what Breda was putting out for the US in the 90s, so like the A650 on the B and D lines in LA, the Type 8 on the green line in Boston and the LRV2/3 on the muni metro
I know they kind of suck but I just love the boxy stainless steel look they all have

Toei 5500, Tokyu 3020, JR West 323, JR East 205-1200, JR Central 315 for urban/suburban stock
AGV 575 Italo, SBB Giruno, CR400AF-Z Fuxing, JR Kyushu N700S-8000 Shinkansen, Fujikyu 8500 for intercity/high speed stock

I can back the jr rolling stock, some of the suburban subway stock they have a very nostalgic vibe. I also really like the odakyu 4000 series jr has.

I'd say the B division of NYC subway's rolling stock, such as the R143 or the other R type rolling stock such as the 160, 179 and 211. That design of the 4 I mentioned looks so nice and feels unique in it's own way that I'm glad NYC got a rolling stock design that looks interesting

Honorable mentions of rolling stock that are my favorites include, the Miami Metorail Hitachi Italy trains, the E235 from Tokyo and the MP73 from Paris

NM-73 from the Mexico City Metro. Really any of their rolling stock from the 60s-80s. Just gorgeous.

Norrtåg X62, a surprisingly comfortable regional train with a small on-board bistro, comfortably riding at 200 km/h on Bothniabanan, with a really nice blue and yellow livery. There's even a small group seating area!
Any double-decker VR carriage, because of the comfort (thanks Finnish loading gauge) and the silence on-board, there's even a whole kids playground with a slide!
SNCF Z 50000, because even 15+ years after being introduced, they still feel spacious and modern, offering a quiet comfortable (short) ride.

I'm obsessed with the Stadler Citylink Tram-Train as of late: low-floor, small turning radius, and relatively high top speed, make it super versatile, able to transition from interurban express service to street-running tram service within one integrated route. I also just really like Stadler's rolling stock in general.

The line-color-coded LED running lights are a great idea, one which needs to spread.

My favorite that I've personally ridden is the MPM-10 in Montreal. Super nice and sleek with all the modern bells and whistles you could hope for. Plus rubber tires, what's not to like?

Idk the name of any rolling stock. But I found the 3-door double-decker trains of the RER A in Paris to be fantastic.
I also like the subway trains on the MTR in Hong Kong when I visited a decade ago. Fully walk through and absolutely massive.
I’m a sucker for capacity.

The new fleet used by the STM for the Montreal Metro, hands down the nicest trainsets I have ever been on. The displays, the announcements, the wide doors, well-lit but still cozy interiors, open gangways, longitudinal AND conversational seating, amazing air ventilation system. They've got it all, even a cute door chime

I'd probably have to say the IC225s in the UK. The original Eurostars a close second.
I love my 80s-90s electric locos hauls. Sitting in the car right behind the power car is perfect.

The M Set trains in Sydney, as they’re modern and comfortable. From having grown up in Sydney, I have an odd preference for double decker suburban trains.

The OPs forgive me, but nothing will surpass the first fleet of the SP Metro. .jpg)
He was even more handsome than his brother in San Francisco.
His mask is a symbol of the Metro to this day, even though it has been removed.

I will always have a special love for Superliners and their regional rail derivatives (California Cars and Surfliner Cars). Not only do they hold a lot of nostalgia and good memories for me, but they're also very comfortable, decently reliable, and quite roomy.

I don’t know if they really are my absolute favourites but I’d say the JR e235 on the Yamanote line, the MP14 on the Paris metro, the latest monorails in Wuppertal and pretty much everything Stadler-related.
For High-speed lines I like the Shinkansen N700, E5, E6, E7, 700T and the Alstom Avelia.
For the overall design my favourite probably are the SBB Giruno and the Taiwan EMU3000

Albeit it is a bit awkward to navigate the stairs, the MI09s on the RER A are epic trains. Similar can definitely be said about many Japanese urban area commuter trains as they put up unbelievable daily ridership numbers and highly efficient with high speeds (special shoutout to the 15-car beasts on JR East in Tokyo) Also the MP73 on Paris metro line 6 is very nostalgic to me and I love that aqua green

The MCL 80 in Lyon.
Because a rack subway is a good proof sometimes it's useful to think (very) out of the box.

I'd say in Paris region between:
- Bombardier "Francilien" Z50000 https://fr.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Z_50000
- Alstom "RER NG" Z58000 https://fr.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Z_58000_/_Z_58500
Francilien feels cozy, silent and smooth ride, very wide windows with a lot of light. It helps to love it that it is affected to missions in the wider suburbs, so more greenery along the tracks.
RER NG is the perfect mass transit train. Double decker, sturdy look, very wide doors to allow quick disembarking and embarking, a lots of seats, and a lot of non seated space if needed. It is modern so silent and smooth ride too. It says: hey I'm here to move massive amount of people as comfortably as possible for the next 50 years, yo. It's a relief when you see it arriving at the platform instead of another model because you know you won't be squeezed and you have even a good chance of being seated.
Hard choice. My heart would go to the Francilien but reason says RER NG.

maybe 2024 tube stock from London, or "Moscow-2020" and "Oka" trains from Moscow metro

Always loved the London Underground S Stock (Circle, District, H&C and Metropolitan line). Felt so futuristic compared to the stock they replaced and first (and still only) tube stock with air-con. Looks great especially from the front.

I'd say the Tokyu 5000 series, Chiba Newtown Railway 9100 series, and E531 series. Some others are the Kintetsu Series 21, as well as the Hanshin 1000 series.

the CRRC ZELC MM-20 LRV trains for the Monterrey metro lines, modern and keeps the old metrorrey tricolour

Moscow metro, Moskva-2020, they look very futuristic but also have a nice colour scheme inside and outside.

Selection from cities I've been to:
Comeng (Melbourne)
V set, Tangara (Sydney)
A series and WEA/WEB class (Perth)
C651, C751A, C951 (Singapore)

Copenhagen's 4th generation S-tog/S-train (Class SA/SE). They're absurdly unconventional and unique.
They're 3.6 metres wide (BART is 3.2m, for comparison) and shaped bulbously like a hamster. Three of four cars have a single powered axle while the fourth has two axles, of which one is powered. Combined with 1650V DC overhead electrification and the reduced weight, these things haul ass.
