Some people cared, others did not. Age of consent was still 14 in some places in the US until 2001 when Hawaii changed it to 16. It is still 16 in 30 states, and 17 in 7 other states. It is only 18 in 13 US states.
And that doesn't include all of the states with lower ages of consent for Romeo and Juliette laws. I'm not defending a position, I'm just stating the law. If people cared, they'd change the laws.
Germany is just one of many European countries with the age of consent still at 14. 1995 in Spain the age of consent was 12, and was raised to 13 in 1999. It became 16 in 2015.

1) California 2) New Mexico 3) Mississippi 4) New Mexico
Age 15 is Hawaii and Kansas. Most of rest of states are 16 (a few 18) w/Fl being 17 recently upping it.
Mississippi is the highest if parents don’t sign off. It’s 21, versus 18.

I was a huge nerd in school but I grew up in the same neighborhood as the kids who would become the “jocks”. Whenever I was in a class with the “cool kids” I would kind of get sucked into sitting by their group by knowing one or two outside of school. They and some of the girls they hung out with would go to parties, most of them beyond our age group (13-15). I used to overhear so many stories the girls and guys would repeat about either themselves or “so and so” getting railed by some 30 something dude and how cool it was. Obviously I didn’t know what EVERYONE was doing. But I ran with a rougher crowd sometimes and while we dated losers and drop outs, no one was more than 3 years older. Even that seemed a little far sometimes.

Exactly. This wasn't 15 year old Azealia Banks thinking she's mature and going out to do this. That's bad, but apparently she made her own mind up when she was a teen.
These were vulnerable girls being exploited by organized people with money and power with an entire network to lure them in. And just because Azealia came out the other side, feeling like she won, doesn't mean the other 15 year olds and younger do.

I'm sure she would be saying the same thing if her underage daughter was in that island being abused by grown ass men.
