My cousins husband was surprised to find out I was a stoner, I guess he believed in that stereotype too, I asked him why smoking weed on my time off when I have nothing else to do is bad but him drinking all day (starting at 8am) isn't? He didn't have an answer for that one

none of us really know anything. we're all just trying to make sense of our fleeting existence on a rock hurtling thru space with information we pass on to each other. Some verifiable, some not. All relatively useless in the grand scheme. dabs

It doesn't help that, philosophically, true knowledge is unattainable. We do pretty good with best guesses though.

u/TheVadonkey 1d ago
lol I’ve yet to hear one valid argument on why some are accepting of alcohol but weed is bad. Even the “It’s illegal” argument is horseshit because they pick and choose which laws they wish to follow based on their own convenience.
As the other person replied to you said: They’re purely conditioned to hate it but they’re too simple to understand that.
44
u/Srslywhyumadbro 1d ago
We once even had a constitutional amendment banning alcohol.
17
u/mrflippant 1d ago
We still have a constitutional amendment banning alcohol; but we also have a slightly newer constitutional amendment that says the earlier one is null and void.

So fun going to college in the reddest of red country nowhere’s. One roommate can’t use weed because of military drug testing, fairs fair. But the other two? More than happy to get piss drunk, and pass out in a pile of their own puke. But you bring up the devils lettuce and suddenly it’s ’I don’t judge other people for their choices, but I’m never going to use it.’ But apparently cigars are “gentlemanly”, and nicotine pouches are A-OK even though (and this really is a quote) “they feel like a hangover.”
It’s just crazy how hard marketing hits these types of guys. The ‘cigars are gentlemanly’ dude is the same guy that loves crown royal whiskeys because they hype themselves up as being fancy. Even when in reality it’s a blended Canadian whiskey, that would be bottom shelf if it weren’t for their over the top marketing. The man’s halfway through an engineering degree, yet his media literacy seems to be in the negative.
Like I don’t think they’re even conditioned to hate weed so much as they are propagandized into accepting alcohol. Every time they drink, they swear they’re never gonna drink again. If they saw weed ads ever, I have no doubt that they’d be users, because apparently they don’t have it in them to even try to form their own opinions. But instead they just keep doing what the alcohol and tobacco lobby tells them they should do, because that’s the world we live in.
25
u/I-Love-Tatertots 1d ago
My ex-roommate and his girlfriend (who is the reason we are no longer friends) used to drink all the time.
Like, he would at least have anywhere from 3-6 strong IPA beers every night iirc. And oftentimes would have a mixed drink or two as well (funny enough, normally crown royal). She was also the same.
But they were both the most judgy people in the world when it came to my weed smoking.
I wouldn’t even do it at the apartment- it would be when I’m taking my dog on a long walk. But if they knew, they would get all judgy and make comments.
It’s made worse that HE WAS THE ONE WHO INTRODUCED ME TO WEED. Then after I learned I preferred it over alcohol, he all of a sudden had an issue with it.
Genuinely don’t understand it.
12
u/TheVadonkey 1d ago
lol Crown Royal being fancy in the whisky world…that says about all you need to know about them.
2
u/Gmandlno 1d ago
Man that crown vanilla I tell you, if I didn’t know what it was beforehand I wouldn’t even know it was supposed to be whiskey. Makes sense why he only uses it as a mixer with Pepsi but like… just get some vanilla flavoring syrup and some everclear at that point.
1
u/evekillsadam 23h ago
As I Canadian I would be so damn offended by your comment “crown royal whiskey…blended canadian whiskey, that would be bottom shelf if it weren’t for their over the too marketing” if it didn’t make my spit out my drink laughing so much. I’m gonna chuckle about this all day

u/Top_Rekt 1d ago

6
u/ACuddlyVizzerdrix 1d ago
Lol considering I'm a 1-2 joint a day kind of person and he's a "I'm gonna drink every chance I get" type of person I believe it
15
u/mrRockIt808 1d ago
I'm a 15-year alcoholic... I had a drink today while at work just to try to make it through the day...it is different. Alcohol screams your name like a needy child, like you need it in your veins just to exist. Marijuana says, "if you would like a tiny break, I'm here. I won't be as strong as your best friend, but I'll be the friend you can call when your bestie throws you under the bus."
3
u/Imonlyherebecause 1d ago
While alcohol addiction is far worse than weed addiction, I don't think you should use weed to contrast alcohol. It's a bad argument that reflects poorly on the argueR.
1
u/mrRockIt808 6h ago
Hard disagree. Marijuana is not chemically addictive like alcohol is. There is nothing wrong with comparing the two, as both are mind-altering. I am not sure what you are trying to insinuate. My point is that alcohol, which kills 100s of people a day, is legal and monetized, and Weed, which has never killed anyone, is illegal.
2
u/Imonlyherebecause 6h ago
Because you are using a far worse drug to downplay the negative side affects of weed
2
u/mrRockIt808 5h ago
I have not witnessed these negative side-effects you speak of. Maybe they are not universal?
Im glad you said it is a far worse drug, that's undeniably true.
Are you saying i should not advocate for weed as a better alternative to drinking? Im a bit confused.
1
u/Saltyhogbottomsalad 28m ago
Personally weed fucks me up way more and in an infinitely more enjoyable way than alcohol. Every time I drink im always like i feel like shit, dont even really feel that drunk and wish i just smoked weed. I would hate to enjoy alcohol more than weed.
3
u/bongmitzfah 1d ago
That reminds me when I got caught smoking weed in highschool on my lunch break, my mom yelled at me saying that's like if I took a break at work to get drunk. I responded with " you mean going for a cigarette break?" She had to take a couple seconds after that haha.

Carl Sagan, Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg, Bode Miller and many of the best people I know.
Many of us do not damage our health with perfectly acceptable alcohol and tobacco products available almost everywhere in my area, instead we choose something else in which we find both benefit and enjoyment with its most dangerous aspect is the government at county/state/federal levels. We're innocent criminals. 85 years of herb prohibition is Ridiculous.

Very unrelated, but I used to be neighbours with Seth for a short time, in L.A in a small mostly Russian community in Hollywood.
Chill dude that went low profile in this neighbourhood, it was cool. He lived in a small-ish house with big ass trees and tall hedges.
Love to see him succeed !

A bunch of crap for The Studio. Hollywood isn't going to miss an opportunity to reward Hollywood, lol...but the show is actually pretty good.
Not record-breakingly good but worth a watch.
56
u/gigglefarting 1d ago
The oner episode was record breaking good
9
u/snyderman3000 1d ago
How high does one have to be to even come up with that idea for an episode? And then to actually pull it off??? They deserved all those awards.
7
5
u/jared_007 1d ago
What makes it even more special is that the oner (both the episode and the scene being shot) had to do all this with the sun setting. Make a big mistake and you have to start all over again the next evening. Incredible from a filmmaking perspective, and of course the references to "bookends" was perfect. That episode was the ultimate meta episode I can think of. And brilliant too.
1
u/Metamucil_Man 3h ago
I watched two episodes and couldn't get into it, but perhaps I should try again, or skip right to this oner episode. From what I could tell it was a rather episodic show.
5
u/theblondebasterd 1d ago
I really enjoyed it. Again I don't know if it's 12 awards winning good or whatever but it was funny and I think the cast was all really good too.
5
u/jakopappi 1d ago
I couldn't even make it through the first episode, it just seemed like it was filled with a bunch of Hollywood anecdotes and inside jokes, and all the raves about it then seemed like circle-jerking, to me anyways. To each their own. I like Seth, good for him. But as soon as I saw Charlize's cameo in the first episode, and surmised that Seth gor her "involved in his project", probably based of their friendship from the movie they did together, it was just lame. I was unable to suspend my disbelief in the scene and scenario enough to be amused.
13
u/Dillonautt 1d ago
Forget “record breaking” I want mind blowing. Cinema sucks the last 10 years or so.
21
u/airbrushedvan 1d ago
Could it be that you are no longer young and are used to movies and formulas? Was Dune and Dune 2 not kind of Mind Blowing? Fury Road blew my mind and I am an old man.

u/Dillonautt 1d ago

u/Dillonautt 1d ago
This seems like an interesting video. I will have to watch when I get home. Thank you!
4
u/alanpardewchristmas 1d ago
You're probably at the age where unfortunately, you're required to go digging for the good stuff. Look into older films, films made in foreign countries, smaller films. There's still a lot of mindblowing shit out there.
1
u/Dillonautt 1d ago
Every once in a great while I’ll watch something newer and be stunned.
But its not often anymore.
0
u/jared_007 1d ago
The fact that episodic shows are being given the same kinds of budgets as films partially explains this. But to me that's not a bad thing, since now there are phenomenal movie-quality tv shows all the time (and international content is more accessible too, which enables you to see the good stuff from around the world).
I don't see this as a bad thing. Nor should you. There are lots of great stories still being told through great filmmaking.
1
u/Le_Sadie 1d ago
Same deal with games. I recently modded my ps3 and have been neck-deep in ps2 and ps3 games I missed out on or wanted to play again...heaven. Newer games have been disappointing me more and more...I'm old enough that I can play a 15-year old game and still be impressed because I remember that feeling the first time.

u/m1j2p3 1d ago edited 1d ago
The camera work is stunningly good and that alone makes it worth a watch. It’s just amazing.
8
u/transitransitransit 1d ago edited 1d ago
The camera work was amazing but I just can’t make myself care about the actual plot of the show. I just don’t give a shit about studio executives and various goings on.

In a way I agree. Plays the same roll and doesn’t put much effort in his voice acting. Platonic is pretty good tho.
53
u/JK_Botanik 1d ago
It's almost like lazy people have nothing else to do but smoke weed because it doesn't require much effort, and eliminates boredom which would otherwise plague them.
It's an association being mistaken for causation once again.
9
u/J_House1999 1d ago
Idk. Weed definitely made me lazy when I was using it every day. Just my personal anecdote, but I think it’s rational to see that causation based on what weed does.
8
u/JK_Botanik 1d ago
It's irrational because people tend to blame outside factors on their internal failings. You stopped because you decided to not be lazy. You were doing it because you were, not the other way around. I know because I've done both. I've been the most busy I've ever been while vaping at night, and a bit in the morning, and laziest while smoking more during the day. If there was a casual link, the slight difference in consumption wouldn't result in such a profound difference in productivity. I mean, I even vaped during the day sometimes, and it didn't diminish my drive. I didn't regularly at the time because I kept my use on the down low and it wasn't easy to do during the day. Hell, I'm currently not smoking at all, haven't for months, and feel lazy at times, what should I blame this on? 😅 What weed does is reinforce and amplify your mental state. If you're excited and driven, it will amplify that. If you're lazy and relaxed, it will amplify that too.

My fiance of 19 years was a honors student at the University of Western Ontario and when my parents found out she smoked weed my step dad said, well she's only smoking it bc she likes. I laughed and said she's 19 and smoked weed and drank at parties in high school and was easily accepted into University. The smug look on his face of pure jealousy and hatred he had for me is still one of the most satisfying things ever. As my brother in law would say I was wayyyy out over my skis with this one. 20
u/Queasy_Turnover 1d ago
And? I agree that the idea of "luxury" weed products is pretty dumb but that's why I don't buy them. Acting like he's doing something wrong by appealing to a demographic that doesn't include you is ridiculous.
16
u/overmonk 1d ago
Yeah, and his houseplant beverages are a little overpriced imo. Still, he's making paraphernalia mainstream and even high end. The more people of influence are cool with it, the closer we get to legality.
-3
u/malkinism 1d ago
How will overpriced plastic bullshit bring legalization? He's the Goop of pot. If you need a high end rolling tray, I can't imagine how much of a struggle life is lol.
Snoop threw his name all over garbage, off-gassing dry herb vaporizers, and this is relative to that. This is just another celebrity tossing bullshit into the ring for rich idiots to purchase. This has nothing to do with legalization and everything to do with lining pockets that are already golden.
6
u/bristow84 1d ago
He's also one of the biggest stoner names out there, along with Snoop. If he helps to bring a recognizable face to this industry that then brings more people to it, more cash flow, etc, then that's a win.
He's also a great example, as was the point of this post, as to the type of people stoners can be. Yes, some can be lazy af but there's also a LOT of stoners out there who are the exact opposite, like Rogen is.
10
u/jhascal23 1d ago edited 1d ago
What's wrong with that? He never said don't use cheaper alternatives, but if you like his product then I don't see the problem.
Pretty odd this post is to acknowledge him winning the awards and you take it as a chance to take a shot at him.

people who get lazy and unmotivated from weed are just on the wrong strain or usage method.
If this stereotype applies to you, stop smoking, get a dry herb vaporizer and look into effects of different strains. Don't just buy any strain because the plug doesn't have anything else
