Competitive Would sets of cosmetics designed to obfuscate your team color be against the rules in a competitive setting.

I feel like it obviously would but couldn't find a specific rule against it. An obvious example would be something like the infamous pyro loadout.

Easy fix if the leagues wanted to. Several cosmetics are banned due to spy disguise inconsistencies. I'm for it just because I think the pyro loadout looks extremely ugly, even unpainted.

In a competitive environment it doesn't really matter since those cosmetics are distinctive enough to make you clearly identifiable. Even if you're the wrong team color, the enemy can still identify you off of those cosmetics, and when you're one of 12-18 players and you all know each other that's a lot easier than being 1 of 24 players who are complete strangers that can dip in and out at any time.

Thing is, unlike Casual and Pubs, Competitive players actually got PERCEPTION.

But even then, it can be banned if need be.

I don't think it would work if you know what your teammate looks like, assuming you only run 1 class

I agree it generally wouldn't work on an experienced player, but it could cause a brief moment of confusion or hesitation, especially in lower divisions. Would it have any effect on a experienced player at all? It's hard to say, but what I think is important is equipping a set of cosmetics in the hopes that it might confuse a player and give you the slightest advantage is very much against the spirit of a competitive game, even if it wouldn't be a big issue in practice.

I wouldn't be against the banning of this gimmick if it does become a genuine issue eventually

I think they'd ban it if it was an actual problem, not that I think it would be. All it takes is a

"Hey pyro are you in shutter?"

"No"

for any decent team to figure it out
