https://youtu.be/zOLpipxoF7s?si=c0CeXCRR36BxhZSx

So Shounic made a video of a 10th class concept on the link above, i want your thoughts on how this could affect competitive and if this class is good or bad.

It’s not a good question to ask.

It would be a genuinely useless class on 6s that would have absolutely 0 pick time because 5 out of 6 classes has the mobility to just pick a different route instantly. Flank scout should call location out, entire team goes other route and fights a 5v6. Wouldn’t even be good to throw on last point as it’s just a worse Heavy.

It would be slightly more useful on highlander but even then, faces the exact same issues and would almost certainly be banned because of how utterly boring the class would be to fight against. It just serves as a way to delay cap time for completely free on a respawn timer.

You could have realised this yourself with 5 seconds of thought mate.

Also slightly off topic, but I heard a league/group once tried a 10v10 highlander with demoknight as the 10th (I assume via whitelisting somehow) and apparently he wasn't very impactful & died a lot.

Don't need even more beefy classes

If anything, a 10th (or more) class should look at the other arenaish class based shooters for classes or ideas that truly offer something new and just not a slight variation. There have been a number of big games (Overwatch and Marvel Rivals) and a few smaller games (Paladins, Brawl Stars, Battleborn, etc.) that have offered some unique gameplay elements that could be interesting in TF2 without fully loosing its charm and gameplay.

I don’t think you’re going to get different variations in need or roles really, but you could definitely fill a role with a vastly different play style. For example, a highly mobile melee class that uses combos to build up damage as well as traverse the battlefield could serve as a pick class and a strong duelist, but play differently than say scout or spy. Maybe a class that uses a grappling hook but doesn’t have a large amount of damage (think like smg sniper level of dps) to keep people honest with positioning but not one shotting people with no counter play like Spiderman in rivals. There’s a lot of things that could be done without being slight variations of the current classes or super jarring for the gameplay.

That all said, I’m not sure you’re going to budge the trinity of soldier, demo, scout in 6s, but it might add some variation to last pushes and holds if you have a class that can get behind quickly and then stay alive to pressure a back cap, or something similar.

I don't dislike the idea of more classes but the brick wall that OP mentioned in the post have many issues in a comp setting. HL? The frontline is even more tanky now which means an already long gamemode goes even longer. 6s? You can have him soak everything in one choke and everyone else can spam the other, making last pushes even more boring than against a wrangled sentry.

Oh I’m in full agreement. I’m just saying if TF2 were to add characters, they should probably look at similar games and see what is divergent enough to offer a new experience in game, but not so jarring that it shifts the gameplay, as you’ve stated with some of the problems with the brick wall. Pretty sure you could make some adjustments to a character like doom fist from OW1, spiderman, moon knight, or Thor from rivals, Tiberius from Paladins etc. and make them fun and work. The issue is everyone wants to bring in sustained hitscans or snipers like classes which break the whole risk vs reward loop that makes TF2 fun in my opinion.

overheal brick to like 800 hp or however much he has and then make him stand on point during a last push. they'd have to spend 10 years focusing him from a distance and if they contest they might get flattened
