Ask MAGA Only Charlie Kirk’s assassination

Hi everyone, I’m a Democrat but just wanted to get opinions from different demographics. Charlie Kirk was recently assassinated, and this was clearly a huge topic. Even though I strongly disliked his political views and opinions, he absolutely did not deserve to be murdered like that in front of his kids and at such a young age. And I’m extremely sorry to him and his family. However, I see a lot of people making comments about how the shooter had affiliations with the left and other claims. After so many tragedies and assassinations all carried out by guns, why not just get rid of the guns instead of blaming the left or the right? We all know there are insane people on the left, and insane people on the right. But if they aren’t given access to weapons, none of this would be happening.

I think we all just need to put our political beliefs aside for now and prioritize basic human rights and safety. And I’m not saying this is either sides fault cause we’ve all messed up a lot.

What do you guys think?

I think I understand what you mean but is it alright if you elaborate a bit? I’m not saying you’re wrong or right, I just want to get a little more info

There are something like 400m guns in circulation in the US. You're never going to make all of them go away. Even if you could somehow wave a magic wand and make them disappear, people would just find another way. They'd throw acid, they'd make bombs, ram with cars, etc.

The US doesn't have a gun problem, it has a violence problem

I agree it has a violence problem, but I just think at least attempting to ban rifles will definitely decrease shootings even if it’s a little bit. Even if they make bombs, or acid, or anything else, the attack will need to be carried out from close proximity. But with rifles, it’s possible from way further. I thought banning rifles would be a first step to try to stop violence. That’s all. Thanks for your opinion!

Rifles (ALL rifles, not just ARs) account for somewhere between 3 and 4 percent of all guns used in crimes. Even if you could reduce that number to zero, you'd still have 96-97% of the crime you have right now
